Bullet production began here on May 12, 1856 when Captain George Armstrong founded his private bullet manufactory at what is now known as Armstrong's Place northwest of town on San Lorenzo Creek. In 1865 Captain Armstrong sold his company to LtCol John Wm Mason who renamed it "Mason & Dixon Manufacturing Company". This company manufactured both percussion cap bullets (1865-1946) and rifled muzzleloaders from 1868-1966 (except 1906-1907). The company became a subsidiary of Colt Industries Incorporated on October 1st 1966 but continued to make its own projectiles until 1984 when it merged with Remington Arms Corporation to form Remington Rand Corporation

It is the second most populous city in the county after San Francisco and has a population of over 50,000 residents. The port of Oakland is just to the east. The name "San Leandro" means "place where trees grow." The first European to see what today makes up San Leandro was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo on October 8, 1542 while sailing from Malaga to Acapulco. He named it Nueva Vizcaya de las Californias (New Vizcaya of California). In 1849, Don José Antonio Márquez y Tolosa granted Rancho Saucedo etching on the hill now occupied by Hillview Avenue for $5 per acre. This opened up much further land for settlement and development around its circumference; more than doubling in size within 10 years. In 1872-73, J P McMurray surveyed and sold about 12 square miles of present-day Oakland to John Waddell for $22 per acre ($2 per sq ft). Waddell built an agricultural village called Belle Ville which he named after his wife - Belle Isle (now part of Fremont). He also founded Alameda County Agricultural Society with 5 acres bought from Atherton Wells near Hayward in Contra Costa County on November 17, 1871. That same year saw incorporation of Oakland as a city with limits established at Third Street southbound and Broadway northbound - bounded by Mount Pleasant Cemetery on one side and Union Square southbound on the other - although there were no streets or limits yet! A meeting held December 4th & 5th 1870 resulted in arrangements being made between various business people such as lumbermens George Hahn & Benjamin Marshall; bankers Acker Coleman & Co.; John Sutter; journallers George Hearst (& others) under pretext of having a meeting to establish boundaries between El Sobrante (the eastern boundary then proposed by Colonel Edward Condon) lies within City Limits but actually extending into parts unknown...It was decided that El Sobrante should be annexed unto thisCity Limits thereby giving rise...to great excitement throughout the City because they considered it their right! On January 1st 1871 Telegraph Company leased lot 89 North 3rd street from United States Government for US$1 per annum payable annually plus interest without interruption until July 1st 2022 inclusive

San Leandro is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 48,405 at the 2010 census. The old town of San Francisco lay to the west and east of San Leandro and it was annexed by San Leandro in 1875. The current city was founded on December 12, 1887 by John B. Shriver as an agricultural center on Rancho Novato south of the southern end of BART Lakebed beyond which he had purchased land from Mission Dolores settler Felipe Calderon for $1 million. The original town site was within what is now the downtown business district of San Leandro and it included numerous businesses including the Jardin Rubber Company, Fruit Land & Sugar Company, Leland Stanford Junior's School of Medicine (now Stanford Health Care), and Kaiser Permanente Hospital before it became part of downtown when BART began service to that area in 1917. The growth of Silicon Valley during World War II led to increased demand for jobs in San Leandro so manufacturing mills were closed down and replaced with new plants such as Victorianshire Paper Goods Company (now Avery Electric) which built a paper mill on Blackhawk Road across from Hayward High School; Alcoa Aluminum plant (now Consol Energy); Krupp steelworks; Shipbuilding Corporation America; Southern Pacific Railroad yards; First Narrows Bridge Workshops until finally closing in 1984 after production moved to Monterrey Mexico. In 1994 a major redevelopment project known as North Beach began with construction of large shopping malls including Jack London Square and State Fair Park anchored by Sears Tower before eventually being followed by other retail developments such as Coopersmith Plaza/Shawarma House/QFC store etc.. In recent years there has been significant revitalization efforts underway with development projects such as Mission Bay Village residential towers overlooking Hummingbird Bayou opposite Interstate 880 just north of Downtown SJC; Blake Street Business District extending from US 101W out into Santana Row near UC Berkeley; Millsview Landing housing developments completed around Donner Hall golf course adjacent to BART stations Muni lines: Foothill Line (northwest-southwest), Embarcadero Line (southwest-northwest), South Pittsburg Line (northeast-southeast)}; Ohlone Way light rail extension serving eastern parts of town begun operations May 2016 The following are some notable landmarks or institutions located in or around SanLeandro:
