Bipedalism has been present in San Leandro for at least 6,000 years. The first bipedal humans in the area were probably traders and warriors who travelled through the region on foot or on horseback. By 4,500 BC, there were some human settlements in San Leandro that had evolved into what is now known asSan Leandro culture. The Chinese settlers began to cultivate crops and build churches and schools in San Leandro. In 1853, San Francisco was founded by Augustus Collier and John Cranch. As part of the initial settlement process, many Chinese immigrants died because of disease or conflict with local Native Americans. However, over time many Chinamen assimilated into American society. During World War II, Japanese-Americans living in California were forced to march through the city on foot from internment camps to concentration camps throughout California coastlines. Many people died along the way including children who were bombed out of their homes during Japan's bombing campaign during World War II. After the war ended, most Japanese-Americans relocated back to Japan but a few chose to stay in United States permanent resident status which allowed them access to education and work opportunities despite being targets of nativist prejudice within American society

In 1850, three blocks north on James Street where many early businesses were located began to grow rapidly when Wm Hutton & Son opened their hardware store which quickly became known as "the hardware store that never closes." In 1851-1852 Wm Hutton donated land south of present day South First Avenue for a public school system that became known as Don Pedro School District No.#1 before being renamed King Middle School from 1951-1953; King Middle School still stands today across from BART Station #8 near Point Reyes Way during construction work on BART's new station next door.. In 1865 incorporation occurred with Caseros Corporation formed by Juan Caseros and others underwritten by Englishman John Stephenson who also purchased 100 acres east side Redwood Creek called Stevenson Ranch then subdivided into lots including what would become San leandro; Stevenson Ranch remains today adjacent to northwest corner First Ave./Milpitas Blvd., northeast corner Second Ave./Stockton Rd., southeast corner Third Ave./Apple Valley Dr., southwest corner Fourth Ave./ Kendall St., bounded by Eastshore Drive (northwest boundary) and Interstate 880 (southwest boundary). Elected officials at this time included 3 members: Mayor Antonio Jirongeorge Robles; Trustee Mariano Luna; Collector Domingo Ramos John Stephenson donated another 100 acres east side Redwood Creek called Stevenson Ranch which served primarily agricultural purposes until 1893 when he sold it to Pte Elias Parish demand water rights from Shasta Lake subject thereto restrictions giving rise to now familiar name: Don Pedro Reservoirs . On May 25th 1898 despite heavy rains local residents staged A march down James St commemorating Centennial Anniversary Of American Settlement Of Northern Californias Bay Area This event marked beginning days of organized labor movement throughout Central Coast region characterized herein as 'First Municipal bandstand' or more typically 'Municipal Hall'. However, it was not until around 1500 AD when Europeans began experimenting with technology that would allow them to travel and explore new lands on two legs. The first true bipedal machines were created by Leonardo da Vinci during the 15th century AD. He designed a machine that could be ridden on four wheels like a horse but could also be moved using only one leg while the other hand operated an arm/claw device similar to a modern day bike pump. This machine is estimated to have cost between 2 and 4 million gold coins which shows how important this invention was forlater technological advances. Although these early machines did not achieve widespread adoption they had some important implications. For one, they showed that bipedality could be worked with – something which would later prove useful in many fields such as engineering and science. Additionally, their design allowed for greater speed and dexterity when moving around difficult terrain or performing hazardous tasks such as mining or construction work. The city's largest employer during this time was General Electric Company which developed many products used in warfare such as radios and tanks. After the war ended, San Leandro again suffered economic decline until it regained some stability during the 1980s when it began experiencing growth in cultural industries such as arts and music therapy along with becoming one of Silicon Valley's most ethnically diverse cities. Today, San Leandro remains an economic powerhouse thanks to its strong ties to technology and its status as one of California's most diverse cities

The first permanent European settler in San Leandro was Nicholas-Jacques Conte, who arrived in 1776. In 1825, the town was incorporated as a village. The residents of San Leandro voted to annex their portion of Oakland on December 12, 1851. On November 5, 1857, San Leandro became the 25th city in California when it replaced Albany as the new capital of the state.
