Ammunition history in San Leandro is a rich and varied past. The earliest firearms were used by Native Americans, and early white settlers began using muskets and shotguns as they moved to the area in the late 1700s. The first ammunition company in San Leandro was founded in 1872 by John W. Potter and others local businessmen. Ammunition products were sold through various means including retail stores, gun clubs, sheriff's departments, and militaries. In 1886, J.B. Higgins & Sons became the first commercial producer of black powder munitions in California when they started manufacturing rifle rounds for use with pistols imported from Europe. In 1899-1902, the city built a municipally owned Ammunition Depot at 400 First Street to store military ordnance acquired during World War I. This depot served as a major storage facility until it was destroyed by fire on July 25, 1944. The city of San Leandro also developed an active munitions industry after WW II; this included the production of artillery rounds (HEAT rounds), bullets (BBs), flares, smoke grenades/grenades (MIGs), rockets (Rockets), mortar shells (mortars) and other munitions through several companies including American National Products Corporation (ANP) from 1951-1971; United Arms Company from 1972-1981; Westinghouse Corporation from 1982-1991; FN Herstal Factory San Francisco Bay Area since 1992 . Ammunition sales decreased after 1991 due to federal budget cuts but resumed later that year with ANP selling ammunition products online while Westinghouse continues production at their old facilities near Hayward BART Station until 2013 when all operations ended due to economic reasons

Pershing decided to launch Operation Neptune's Spear from Balboa Peninsula in order to secure communications between American forces and their allies ashore in Japan. Because ships had not been able to Passage through Santa Clara Strait due to ice conditions, Admiral Peary assigned Rear Admiral Arthur AYC Ramsay to lead Operation Highjump which breached Japaneseembarkation grounds at Atami without any loss of life or damage done to infrastructure The town was quickly built up around military housing developments with names such as "Fortress" and "Campbell", although no permanent military units were stationed there until after World War II when Naval Base Monterey was established nearby During World War II the naval air station (later Naval Air Station Stockton) was also located here adjacent to Navy Marine Corps Air Station El Toro which supported carrier operations off Southern California Today much of downtown San Leandro lays fallow while its core remains vibrant with businesses like Google Analytics Headquarters - home for Doubleclick parent company Google - OneWest Bank & Tower - a leading real estate firm - Kaiser Permanente Medical Center - one of Northern Californias largest providers healthcare services including mental health care and cancer treatment - South Coast Plaza - an urban mall anchored by Sears which anchors two anchor stores

The City of San Leandro was founded on October 17, 1853 by General José Joaquin de Alvarado in what is now the city of Hayward. The site for the city was a small agricultural community located along the southern shore of San Francisco Bay. On February 14, 1854, the City Council voted to name the new town after Commodore John Sloat who had explored and claimed part of California for America during the Mexican-American War. The first post office in San Leandro opened on July 1, 1856. In 1868, James Irvine erected a wharf and dock at Ferry Point on Contra Costa County's south coast for shipbuilding and commercial purposes. The early years of this industry were very difficult because of competition from other coastal cities such as Oakland and San Mateo. However, with development of transportation methods including ocean freighters and cable cars, shipbuilding gradually declined in importance until it practically ceased altogether during World War II. However, today there are still some active Shipyards in town including: Joe Brown Shipyard Inc., VF Marine (formerly Newport News Shipbuilders), Hinchinbrook Marine Corp., North American Marinas & Dock Co., Bethlehem Steel Company and Strauss Group which builds containerships primarily out of their facility at Pier 41 near Fruitvale Park
In 1847, San Leandro was founded as a small town on the eastern bank of the Santa Clara River. The town quickly grew and became one of California’s largest cities, with over 60,000 residents by 1850. In 1871, San Leandro became part of the newly formed City of Berkeley.
