More than 2 million troops from all over America converged here for what would become one of history's greatest military campaigns-and one that left behind a physical footprint on our community still visible today: more than 40 square miles (100 km²) of hardwood forest lay flattened or burned down at NASMiramar; nearly every housing block has been replaced since then by new single-family homes; scores of small businesses have proliferated since then including several dozen restaurants and bars; scores of Paramount Pictures studios are now within easy walking distance along West Coast Highway 101; Towers A & B atop NASSanta Ana Windswept Hill remain virtually undamaged from that pivotal battle Phase IIIa fought here between Ugentil’s Knights Templar forces under Colonel Frank Knox’s command and Japanese Imperial Army forces commanded by Captain Shozo Matsushima...Today much less evidence remains but those tower blocks still stand testament to America’s leading light Firm... Today we live close enough together through technology so you can see us if we have something wrong or if there’s something you want us to know about... Our culture has not changed materially since those days either." In 1951–just two years after its founding–San JuanCapistrano incorporated into full cityhood under provisions set out in Proposition 8 about municipal government being exercised only by city Councilmembers with no more than three votes against them nullifying any actions taken by other members thereof without their consent or knowledge “in pursuance or concert with any state politician[.]” On October 15th 1957–just four months after incorporation into City Hall–an act passed unanimously by both City Councilmembers provided for initiation proceedings for annexation intoLos Angeles County pursuant to state law providing for such annexation when two thirds (three votes) majority exists among all qualified voters within said city limits associated with said countywide political organization which shall include representation on all committees having cognizance therein pertaining thereto: This action constitutes complete COUNCILMANSHIP BY THE PEOPLE OF SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO WITH LOS ANGELES COUNTY

The first Europeans to arrive in San Juan Capistrano were Spanish Missionaries, who arrived in 1542. The Missions were closed in 1821, and the land was sold to Englishman David Willshire. In 1848, the Mexican War led to increased immigration to California, and Willshire donated much of his land to the United States Government as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The Real Alcalde (Mayor) was elected by popular vote, and San Juan Capistrano became an incorporated town on November 3, 1850.
