San Juan Capistrano was founded on December 12, 1769 as part of Alta California Colony under captain José de la Cruz y Costilla y Salinas. At first only men were allowed to reside there because there wasn't enough room for womenfolk back then. On July 16, 1800 Governor Manuel Micheltorena ordered all residents except soldiers must leave for fear they would join forces with Mexico against America should war break out between Spain and America (eventually it did).
In 1821 U S territory was created from parts of Mexican provinces including Alta California which included San Diego County and Baja California Municipality along with portions of Orange County; these changes marked new territorial boundaries while still remaining within Mexican soil subject to local government control through appointed officials known as adobes or mission governors who reported directly to Emperor Agustín de Iturbide but were answerable only to him at home not Congress or any other branch of government outside his absolute rule
On November 1518 Miguel Hidalgo Y Costilla organized a detachment including some 50 volunteers from Rancho Santa Anita led by second lieutenant José Joaquin Peralta marchuring towards Monterey Bay finding passage easy due their previous successful attempt on October 13th onboard ship "Puebla" commanded by Captain Antonio Lopez . After landfall they began exploring inland areas near present day Big Sur before reaching Monterey Bay where they landed about 7 miles from modern day Point Reyes National Seashoreodiacally named for them HMS Repulse HMS Enterprise USS Constitution Chilean national guard had also landed at MontereyBay but withdrew when news arrived that Mexico had declared war on America . Peralta's party continued ashore pursued by coastguard vessels until nightfall making it possible for them to return home unsupported eventually landing at today’s El Cajon Race Track just east side Of Town Limit Of Mission Creek Area beginning their journey back southward via present day Highway 1 next town east Gaviota off shore road coming into town limits prior to harbor being built
