From there, gunnery crews began using paper plates as our primary means Of scoring points off of their opponents’ rifles during shoot-outs

San Jose was founded in 1795 as a small town on the west bank of San Francisco Bay. The first post office opened in 1856, and the city was named for José Joaquín de San José de la Cruz, who served as governor of Alta California from 1847 to 1850. In 1906, San Jose became an incorporated city and has since grown into one of the most populous cities in California. It is also the third-largest city in Silicon Valley. The history of San Jose begins with its founding by Spanish missionaries on November 15, 1795. The Santa Clara missions were established just east of what is now downtown San Jose. The mission priests were looking for a site that could be used for religious services and commercial purposes because they lacked suitable land north of Mission Street in downtown San Francisco. After surveying their new find, Father Junípero Serra decided to build a chapel on the spot where he believed his father had landed on earth over 200 years earlier. Father Serra called his new settlement La Purísima Concepción (The Pure Hearted Conception). Debuting on December 6, 1796, La Purísima Concepción soon became known as San José del Monte (San José Mountain). During its early years, La Purisima Concepción struggled due to lack of resources and low population density compared to other settlements in Alta California at that time. However, it would not be until 1812 when the Mexican government designated part of Rancho Rinconada—the present-day neighborhoods around High Street and Capitol Hill—as part of Yreka under Governor Manuel Micheltorena’s jurisdiction because he felt that Yreka should have representation within Mexico’s newly formed Central America Province after Presidio Californios had been taken over by Spain following Mexico’s victory over France at the Battle of Buenavista on November 14, 1810. As a result of this designation and acreage purchases by Yreka residents between 1812 and 1830, Rinconada quickly grew into one OFA [Ontario District] with more than 400 families; it was composed primarily of adobe buildings with scattered Adobe Walls still standing today! Under Mexican rule there were no towns or villages within OFA boundaries but everyone lived near their ranchos/ farms which spanned nearly 1 million acres! BecauseOFAs functioned independently from each other there wasn’t much development taking place outside OFA walls until AFTER Mexican independence when “crazy builder Barrio Norte” began populating areas east side Of Atherton Road & Springdale Avenue about 1840″ . This particular area included Santana Row before Sam Adams Rd., current day Santa Clara Ave., Paseo de la Costa & Masonic Temple .
