In 1840s two more English-speaking families arrived: James Waddell andNicholas Goodall. James Waddell arrived with his wife and four children while Nicholas Goodall landed with his family in 1845 aboard the brigantine USS Constitution which sailed into Baja California on July 17th under Captains George Simpson & Benjamin Franklin Elliott off Point Lobos during South America Expedition commanded by Commodore John Byron Fitch looking for new routes around Cape Horn

The discovery of oil in San Jacinto led to America's industrial revolution and has been credited with helping spur economic growth in both countries over the past century.
The San Jacinto battle was fought on April 14, 1845, between Mexican forces and American forces. U.S. General Zachary Taylor led a force of 10,000 men against Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna's army of 25,000 soldiers. The Mexicans lost over 50% of their casualties in the engagement while the Americans suffered only 4 killed and 8 wounded.
