In 1846, the San Jacinto massacre took place when six Californian volunteers were shot and killed by Mexican nationals near what is today downtown San Jacinto. As a result, local police departments are called in as first responders when something happens with a guns in public (such as someone buying one online). In many cases, these officers lack experience or training in how bestto handle such situations. The result can be tragic: shootings occur while officers are trying to enforce laws that were put into place specifically to keep people safe from harm. A fifth strategy employed by some states in an effortto reduce gun violence is through arming teachers and other school personnel with handguns if they feel like their lives are at risk due to threats posed by students or others inside the classroom.[1] While this measure has been shown effective at reducing fatalities among school personnel,[2] it also raises serious questions about whether it’s appropriate for schools large enoughtotake on such a task given that members thereof may face personal endangerment if they try touse deadly force against assailants?
