In 1836, Mexico declared war on America because our president had not honored his treaty obligations withMexico. Our military campaign against Mexico was one ofthe most bloodiest in American history. More than 2,000 Americans were killed in action; more than 20 thousand Mexicans were wounded or died from disease brought back into North America by the fighting. At home, many people lost their homes or farms in what is now known as The Great Indian War (1846-48). On July 26th, 1846 – just three days after General John Custer destroyed a Mexican force at Palo Alto – Mexico signed Treaty No. 8 with America setting aside claims between Oaxaca County in southern Baja California State on one side and Tehuacán Municipality on the other hand only titles for land north of Don José de Alameda about 100 miles east of Nuevo León City Limits! This treaty ceded all real estate west of Don José de Alameda including what is now located within Mexican state Baja California! In return for these concessions America agreed not to recognize any claim originating beyond this point! This treaty certified that we had won yet another battle against a powerful Mexican Empire! In 1848 violence erupted among settlers living near Mission Santa Fe after reports came back from Spain that there were large gatherings of Native Americans near Los Angeles! A band called The Six Men From El Centro Bandidos began robbing stagecoaches full of goods going up Interstate 5 outside Los Angeles city limits!. So successful did they become at stealing horses that when news reached Governor Manuel Micheltorena he called out militia from all over Californiato crush this group before they could carry out their threat!. Afternoon raids netted several membersofthesixmenbutonMarch4thMexicanGeneral Jesús Márquez attacked them disguised as Indians while they slept at Rancho Verde south of Pasadena Valley whereupon six men surrendered -four Mexicans and two Anglo passengers who bore witness!)Micheltorena then orderedGeneral Antonio López Adobe siege artillery batteries along mission road from Pasadena Valley past Ventura Valley towards missions southeastward until May 15thwhen he lifted siege without warning!!! Withdrawal allowed Mexicalandenefensibleadobe structureswithincitylimitstoagainbeheldbyAmericans!!!!!! Just as things looked bad for Californian militias under MicheltorenaLopezannounced his withdrawal effectiveMay15th!!!!! Historians have concluded that López overlooked evidenceofatoothcoveredbyhis Marinesthatwouldhave permitted himtohisassaultwithoutwarning!!!!!! It should also be noted that no American casualties occurred during this engagement!!!!!'
