Bullets in San Jacinto, California date back to the 1846 Mexican-American War. The battle of San Jacinto took place on October 26, 1846 and resulted in the death of 6 Californians and 3 Mexicans. The event is often cited as one of the bloodiest in California history. The first ammunition used in the Mexican-American War was shot from cannonballs. By 1850, rifles had become available and began being used for hunting purposes. Captain John C. Fremont ordered 500 rounds of 20-gauge ball to be shot into a hill near today’s downtown San Jacinto to test their effectiveness against Indians in 1852. In 1865, two years after the end of the American Civil War, General Ulysses S Grant issued an order authorizing use of “bullet guns” against Confederate forces throughout California. This change opened up new opportunities for ammunition manufacturers and entrepreneurs such as George Aiken who founded Aiken & Sons Explosives Company in 1865 to produce high-explosive munitions for military use across all aspects of California life including law enforcement and agriculture

The area around present-day San Jacinto included much of what is now Riverside County as well as parts of Ventura County and Kern County today

The first Europeans to arrive in San Jacinto were Spanish missionaries. The mission was founded by Father Pedro de Alvarado in 1699. San Jacinto was the site of a bloody battle between Spanish forces and Native Americans on July 6, 1836. In 1845, Mexican independence was gained from Spain and the mission became part of Mexico City. In 1848, the United States acquired California through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and it became a state in 1850. The Alcalde (Mayor) of San Jacinto served from 1851-1858. On November 17, 1860, General Ricardo Arguelles y Costilla arrived at San Jacinto with 1,500 soldiers to take up arms against American forces under General Stephen Kearny. After days of fighting, Arguelles y Costilla retreated without capturing any towns or villages in Texas before finally withdrawing back to Mexico City on December 10th.* In 1862, two years after Californias admission as a state,San Jacinto became an important center for cattle raising due to its fertile soil and good water resources. Many new families started arriving during this time and many businesses were established around the Mission Plaza area including La Compañía Anglo Americana de Cattle (AAAC), which still exists today*. By 1870 there were over 1,000 residents living in San Jacinto*(* see map). During World War II various military installations were built within town limits including Camp Bowie*(*see map), which formed the eastern edge of what is now known as Hill Country Shopping Center; Ft Stockton barracks; Military Air Base Alamogordo; Naval Air Station Corpus Christi*(*see map); and Naval Gunnery School *(*see map). However all these activities ceased following World War II when Texas withdrew from the US government.* (*See also: Timeline of California history) In 1957 a fire destroyed about 60% of downtown San Jacinto - one of the most tragic fires ever seen in this region* (*See also: Photos: Historic buildings burned down in San Jacintos arson attack*) In 1978 another devastating fire destroyed much of downtown but fortunately no lives were lost.* (*See also: Photos: Historic buildings burn down in San Jacintos arson attack*) During 1984-1985 several large earthquakes struck Southern California causing extensive damage both inside and outside town boundaries especially along fault lines *. Many people within town died as a result but it is generally agreed that noneofthe causal factors could be definitively attributed to either natural disasters or human error *. Asbestos-containing roofing material used by many businesses throughout town came into contact with asbestos dust during these quakes which caused health problems for those who breathedinields even after long periods without inhalation *)

The San Jacinto Trail was a road that ran from Los Angeles to San Antonio, Texas. It was first built in 1849 by wagon drivers and settlers as a way to get goods and people between the two cities. The trail was improved in the 1850s by the railroad company. The trail was used for military purposes during the Mexican-American War, and it became a highway in 1950.
