In 1892, the San Gabriel Valley was hit hard by a large fire that destroyed over 40 homes. One of the few survivors was Mrs. J.H. Lichtenstein who started a local business to help people rebuild their lives. She soon realized that she could do more to help her neighbors and loved ones than just hand them money; she wanted to provide something special for them- a soft gun case. Today, Mrs. Lichtenstein's son, Jerry, remains an active and philanthropic member of the community, helping new businesses start up and donate his time and resources towards making San Gabriel Valley a better place for everyone. His passion for giving back has led him to found The Jerry Lichtenstein Foundation which supports programs that empower individuals in need through economic opportunities and education opportunities. One such program is TheJerryLichtenstein Scholarship Fund which provides scholarships to high school seniors in San Gabriel Valley who are pursuing careers in agriculture or industry. Through this unique award program, we hope to encourage young adults in our community to stay connected with their rural roots while still attending college or university!

San Gabriel, California is an incorporated city in Los Angeles County, California. It is located on the San Gabriel River and has a population of over 120,000. The primarily agricultural town was founded in 1853 by Latter-day Saints (Mormons) who arrived from Illinois. Today's Mormon Cemetery complex lies at its core. The name "San Gabriel" means "place of plenty" in Spanish. The original inhabitants of the area were the Tongva people, who called it Ajo de Nuestro Padre (Father's Waterhole). In 1853, when gold was discovered nearby, settlers named the settlement San Gabriel after Saint George (or San Jacinto), patron saint of Spain. The first post office opened in 1854 and was called Ajo de Nuestro Padre because of its location on Father's Waterhole Road. In 1861–1862 a group of Mormons under the leadership of Brigham Young moved from Nauvoo, Illinois to what is now West Valley City after being driven out of Nauvoo by the mobsters there. They named their new community Utah City after President Abraham Lincoln's home state – though they never set foot inside it. When California became a U.S.-Mexico land grant territory in 1850, part of Rancho Santa Anita lay within present-day SanGabriel; this parcel was granted to Juan Bautista Alvarado for his part as an early settler in ranching and farming operations that stretched from Pasadena to Long Beach across Orange County and into Ventura County beyond

The San Gabriel Valley was first settled by the Tongva people in the late 1800s. The area now known as San Gabriel Valley was part of Rancho Santa Anita, which was granted to José Joaquín Alta del Rey in 1835. In 1871, the land west of Angeles National Forest was transferred to Isabella County from Los Angeles County. The following year, portion of Pasadena east of University Avenue and south of Washington Boulevard were annexed into Pasadena. In 1907, a group of investors purchased 1 million acres in what is now downtown LA from John D. Rockefeller for $5 million dollars. The group named their new venture "Los Angeles City Lines" after completing a railroad line between Chicago and LA that had been started by Rockefeller's father-in-law four years earlier. In 1909, the city lines became part of the Western Electric Railroad system and were later renamed "Los Angeles Railway Company". On October 15, 1910, Los Angeles City Lines (LAC) merged with Southern Pacific Railroad to form the Los Angeles Railway Company (LAR). On November 15th same year LAC completed its first interurban service between Pasadena and North Hollywood; this route would come to be known as El Camino Real. LAR also began construction on a mainline from Downtown LA through Westwood to Orange County through Buena Park and Garden Grove; this line would become known as Huntington Freeway. On December 1st 1913 LAC leased two miles (3 km) of trackage from Southern Pacific Railroad at Exposition Park in downtown LA for $1 per annum until 1915 when both companies sold it back to Southern Pacific for $2 per annum plus interest payments until 1920 when it reverted back to LAC under new management terms. By 1918 all exchanges between LAC andSouthern Pacific had been discontinued so merging became an automatical process with all trains being operated as single units without switches or locomotives
