Despite this diversity by neighborhood, alluvial soils and DEM evidence suggest that major rivers flow through or near each one including those around Slauson Reservoir which forms much of eastern Riverside County including parts of East Montrose[1] In 1957 the city limits were extended eastward to include portions of North Hollywood annexed from Culver City following a referendum held in that year despite objections from then-Mayor Gil Cedillo who maintained that annexation would reduce his power base within LA during an era of political change%. On November 22nd 1959 a fire destroyed over 20% of the downtown core with extensive loss taking place between 5th Street and Chavez Ravine Avenue including many historical buildings dating back to before incorporation into Los Angeles which remain vacant today
