Many of these new arrivals were Catholics who wanted to settle near their churches so they could continue faith practice uninterrupted while they awaited U.S. citizenship. In 1857, three men named Doniphan (a man from Missouri) bought 2,500 acres (8 km2) of land at what is now known as Sepulveda Boulevard and Cucamonga Avenue for $5 per acre ($160 total). The men named their new settlement San Gabriel after St. George’s Chapel (in London), where they had served as members since their arrival there two years earlier on Easter Sunday previous year. At that time it was considered a very rough frontier outpost with few amenities other than an African American laborer who did all the cooking for company meetings and laundry for everyone else living thereabouts! In fact much later when development began hereabouts it was thought that “the black gentry” would have more opportunity heretofore never enjoyed anywhere else within commuting distance! These days though we can appreciate just how significant this original settlement truly was due both physically and symbolically given subsequent developments which took place right hereabouts starting with World War II onwards! Some may also point out that if it weren’t for all those brave young boys – some six or seven decades ago now – serving our country abroadClick Here And Now millions more might not be living lives free from fear or danger today simply because too often our leaders choose instead to play politics rather than listen & understand what makes us alltick

San Gabriel is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 210,397 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Fernando Valley region. The area now known as San Gabriel Valley was first populated by the Tongva people, who ranched and mined in this area for thousands of years. Mission San Gabriel Arcángel (founded in 1795) served as the spiritual center for much of central Los Angeles County. In 1821, Rancho Santa Anita was acquired from Juan Jose Alvarado; it became part of what is now Vernon Heights and Baldwin Hills. On January 14, 1850, Mexican land grants were made to 20 families including 8 to José Canelo and 12 to Mariano Castro; these grants included portions of present-day Pasadena and La Cañada Flintridge neighborhoods. In 1857–58 James Gittins built an agricultural station on what is now White Settlement Road east of downtown LA; he named it Gittinsville after himself and his brother-in-law George Washington Garland. In 1860s When American troops arrived during the American Civil War they burned down Gittinsville as a prelude to capturing Fort Worth so General Grant could open up Chihuahua Territory (modern Mexico). A post office called San Gabriels opened in 1872; its name changed to Los Angeles in 1887 due to trademark problems with The Herald newspaper chain’s predecessor company Eureka Publications Company Inc.. The last resident moved out in 1974 when Lockheed Aircraft Corporation moved into their new facilities across from City Hall on Wilshire Boulevard near Temple Street. In 1984, then Mayor Jesse Arreguin dedicated the newly completed Hollywood Hills park which encompassed most of East Hollywood west of Vine Street between Sunset Boulevard and Highland Avenue
The San Gabriel Valley was first populated by the Tongva people in the late 1800s. The valley is bounded on the north by Pasadena, on the east by Monrovia and Huntington Beach, on the south by Thousand Oaks and Glendale, and on the west by Arcadia. In 1871, gold was discovered in nearby San Dimas and investors began searching for a way to get it out to them. A road was built through this area in 1872, and soon mines were being opened up throughout the valley. In 1907, Los Angeles County was formed from parts of Orange County. The new county included most of what is now central San Gabriel Valley as well as most of western Riverside County. By 1912, however, most of eastern Riverside had been annexed into Los Angeles County so that all of what is now central San Gabriel Valley became part of Los Angeles again.
