Sloan founded Kodak Company in San Fernando Valley. KODAK became one of the most successful American companies of its time and helped make San Fernando Valley one of the most important filmmaking regions in America. The San Fernando Valley is a region in southern California located east of Los Angeles. The valley was originally inhabited by the Tongva Indians, who were displaced by the arrival of European settlers in the 1600s. The area became part of Mexican territory after the Mexican-American War and was annexed to the United States as part of California in 1850. In 1879, King George III granted lots for land west of present-day Hollywood to James S. Gilmore and his brothers. Gilmore developed a small town called San Fernando with about 100 residents, including actors known for their work on stage and screen such as Charlie Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks Sr. In 1888, local farmers formed a Agricultural Society to improve cultivation within the valley and promoted horseback riding, fishing, farming practices, and other interests. As early as 1907, Edison Electric Light Company developers planned to build an electric line from West Hollywood through San Fernando Valley to Crystal City in Arlington Heights; however, this project never proceeded because of financial difficulties at that time. In 1916–17 construction began on what would become Universal Studios Park; however, due to World War I restrictions on movie production (the war led to increased availability of oil), filming only took place during high season between November 15th and January 6th each year until 1918 when it started again due to American troops being deployed abroad at that time. In 1923 Warner Bros., then owned by21st Century Fox Film Corporation built their studio lot adjacent to Universal Studios Park; they used it until 1957 when they moved into their new studios across Wilshire Boulevard from Universal Studio Park. During this time period Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer also constructed a studio lot next door at 815 North Western Avenue which served as their merged operations with Warners until Mayer’s death in 1993. In 1955 Paramount Pictures constructed what is now Paramount Canyon Drive near Gardendale while 20th Century Fox built Pickford Road northeast of Ventura (now Oxnard) for use as an auxiliary campus for their business operations related thereto before moving out completely in 1987 following divestitures by these two companies following Time Warner's acquisition thereof). San Fernando Valley is a valley in southern Los Angeles County, California. It is bordered by the city of Glendale to the north, Brentwood to the east, Westchester to the south, and Canoga Park and Sherman Oaks to the west. The population was 122,746 as of 2010. The San Fernando Valley has been inhabited for at least 10,000 years. The first people in what is now San Fernando Valley were Native American traders who traveled along what is now Interstate 5 between Pomona and LA. By 1853, Spanish settlers had arrived and began draining creeks that ran through present-day San Fernando Valley in an attempt to create Rancho Santa Anita. In 1881, when General James Hahn laid out a new military post called Presidio Heights on top of Mount Wilson within today's Sylmar Cemetery complex, he named it San Fernando Valley after his favorite valley in Spain where he had spent holidays as a child. In 1907 Hollywood premiered its first feature film "Safety Last" at the Universal Studios lot across from today's Microsoft headquarters buildings on Buena Vista Street. The following year saw the opening of Paramount Pictures studios adjacent to then-Rancho Santa Anita racetrack on sanford Boulevard in what is now Echo Park. In 1916 Standard Oil built its largest refinery outside of New York City on Ruiz Road just east ofpresent day Russian Hill Road (at what are now Hearst Castle Drive and Highland Avenue). The 1920s were an era of dramatic change for Southern California with growing gambling debts leading to rapid economic decline throughout much of Northern California while Southern Californians continued enjoying high quality education and access to green spaces like open space preserve such as Griffith Park became available only through donation or purchase from northern developers interested in controlling their natural resources instead of giving them away free to local citizens who enjoyed using them for various purposes including golfing, hiking and picnicking which continue until this day (Griffith Park Open Space District manages parkland) . In 1933 Calumet City was incorporated as a result of Proposition 7 which prohibited any annexation by Los Angeles County without prior vote by residents living inside newly annexed areas which included much of today’s Vallejo Hills except for some homes near Northridge High School currently known as Sunset Hills due mainly because one family owned most everything inside those boundaries . In 1935 two miles long unpaved road running from Union Station thru Beverly Hills went thruValley View Estate & intersected with current Ventura Boulevard

In 1902, five years after Pathé’s release,Walter Mitty’s “The Great Gatsby” was filmed in screenings throughout the San Fernando Valley before being released theatrically across North America two months later on October 15th. Although not considered a hit at the time, “The Great Gatsby” would go on to become one of Hollywood’s most iconic films and be recognized aroundthe world by directors and screenwriters who continue to make homage to it today including Tim Burton who remade it for his own film adaptation starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire back in 2013

The name of the town is derived from Mission Santa Fé which was built in 1777 and it served as a religious center for the surrounding communities. The town grew rapidly due to its location close to railroad tracks, access to water resources, and proximity to other towns in Los Angeles County. By 1907, San Fernando had a population of over 10,000 people and was one of the most important agricultural centers in Southern California. In 1916, San Fernando became an incorporated city and continued to grow until it reached its current size by 1980.
