The first post office was established at Lankershim Rancho Seco in 1872. Atwater died in1875 but his wife Hilda continued running rancho until her death in 1923. She was succeeded by their son Randolph Laughlin who ran it until his death in 1957. From its inception through World War II there was little development or activity taking place within San Fernando Valley other than grazing operations by sheepherders which were supplemented during wartime with production work for aircraft manufacturers at nearby Lockheed Aircraft plants located adjacent to Menlo Park High School where test Pilot training took place before combat missions began over Japan during World War II’s “Aircraft Revolution." However following World War II things changed dramatically with multiple residential developments coming about due to increased demand for housing from veterans returning home followed by businesses founded by veteran entrepreneurs like entrepreneur Jay Pritzker who purchased large chunks of undeveloped agricultural land surrounding Menlo Park Reserve Golf Course becoming one of Silicon Valley’s most powerful men while others such as venture capitalist Paul Allen built homes throughout much of North Hollywood filling needs created following military service participation including active duty service members husbanding women who made up 50%+ percent +of total workforce employed righteousness! In fact Allen later served as Mayor of Los Angeles being elected to that position vacated by Richard Riordan upon his appointment as U S Ambassador to South Vietnam prior to LBJ’s Presidency!During these decades there also grew into existence several bands/artists associated with Northern California music scene including The Doors (led by drummer Ray Manzarek), Cream (guitarist Eric Clapton) & Free Association (bassist Ginger Baker) & Firehouse Prophets led by singer Tony Williams
