In 1892, David Lawrence designed and built the first shooting target holder in San Dimas, California. From its inception until 1892 it functioned as one single entity with missions serving all parts of southern Orange County including Yorba Linda (founded by Franciscans) and Carpinteria (founded by Jesuits). On April 14, 1850, Mexican General Manuel Micheltorena destroyed part of Rancho La Brea's adobe mission complex near present-day El Conejo after an ill-advised raid seeking arms against American forces under Commodore John Drouin during the Alta California War. A short while later another Mexican general Emilio Apodaca destroyed that portion also (). This event became known as Rancho La Brea's Catastrophe which resulted in many ranches being taken up by settlers in search for new land to farm given that Mexico had ceded most or all their lands east of the Sierra Nevada mountains to US control following the Mexican–American War In 1892 when Mission Santa Barbara merged with other churches forming First Baptist Church (now known as Cathedral Basilica), Trinity Episcopal Church arrived from Oxnard to take over Mission Santa Barbara's vicarage which house also served as social hall for church members and their families until 1924 when it was demolished due to fire hazard reasons but much remains today about this rich history including some beautiful brick building still standing! The first post office called San Bernardino opened on December 12th 1860; it closed October 1st 1861 due to floods caused by torrential rains upstream that week . On January 8th 1863 there was a small skirmish at Saugus between Americans led by Captain Edward Hurlbut andMexican troops commanded by Colonel Cosme Garcia y Gomez according to contemporary reports . There wasn't significant battle fought though some casualties were reported Anglo traders living along what is now Hearst Avenue burrowed down into Mexicali depths looking for water supplies during these days before finally emerging ontoshore again prospecting waters around what would become downtown Los Angeles
