San Dimas is a city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 27,651 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Riverside–San Bernardino Metropolitan Statistical Area. They built an adobe mission on the east side of Coyote Creek about two miles (3 km) south of present-day San Dimas Boulevard. In 1861 the Mormon pioneers founded a new town called Brigham Youngtown on land that later became part of San Dimas Boulevard. In 1876, gold was found near Sleepy Hollow and people began moving into what is now San Dimas to find it. The discovery led to an influx of miners and their families who built homes and businesses around Coyote Creek Road and Gold Hill Road. By 1889 there were over 100 residents living in Brigham Youngtown proper; however, when annexation by Riverside County occurred that year, Brigham Youngtown merged with neighboring townsMountain View (1889), Banning (1890), Moreno Valley (1902), Warner Springs (1903) to form what is now known as "Southland" Community Services District #1 (). After World War II ended, many Japanese American citizens were forced into concentration camps located near Los Angeles during World War II; these individuals also lived in Southland Community Services District #1 for a time after their incarceration until they were released or deported back to Japan in 1949. The early 20th century saw growth for both Menlo Park and Southland due to industry such as farming, manufacturing, logging and ranching which continued until the late 1960s when those industries declined as technology replaced them throughout much of Southern California beginning with Silicon Valley followed by other major metropolitan areas throughout California including Los Angeles county overall during this period which has been referred to as "Silicon Valley's golden age".
