In 1853, San Dimas was founded as a small rancho by Josefina and Antonio Sanchez. The first post office was established in 1854, and the first store was opened in 1857. In 1865, San Dimas became an incorporated town. The population of San Dimas increased rapidly with the arrival of railroad workers and farmers in the early 20th century. By 1915, the population had reached over 50,000 people. during World War II (1939-1945), San Dimas played a significant role in the war effort with its production of munitions such as aviation gasoline and aircraft parts.
