In 1886, San Dimas’s first gun store opened its doors. It was a small, cramped space with dirt floors and an old-fashioned cash register. The store's proprietor, George A. Smith, traded guns and ammunition from his home on California Avenue. The Gun MagAZine began publication in 1898 and has been published monthly ever since. In 1946, the magazine moved to its present location at 1500 E 4th Street in San Dimas. It is now one of the most popular firearms magazines in the country. In 1889, the city also granted authorization for the creation of a public library at 14th Street and I-5 (now called University Avenue). The first issue of the Gunsmiths Magazine was published on December 1st, 1891. The last issue was published on February 25th, 1933.
San Dimas, California is a city in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 769 at the 2010 census. The city is located in the Inland Empire metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit what is now San Dimas were Spanish Missionaries in 1769. They named it Rancho Seco because of its rich soil and redwood trees. The town was founded on May 15, 1871 by James Wickersham from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania as a small ranch town on the east side of San Bernardino Creek near present-day Claremont Road and Prospect Avenue. It had a population of only 25 people when it was founded. On July 16, 1892, John Sutter arrived with his 20 men and680 horses at the new Presidio of San Francisco and discovered gold reefs in what is now downtown San Dimas; he named the hills "Sutter's Gold" after himself and General Sam Winchester (the founder of Winchester Repeating Arms Company). At first there were few buildings due to lack of money and construction halted until 1894 when lumber became available from NorthernCalifornia lumberyards which made possible many new buildings including City Hall, City Hall Annexe (later United States Courthouse), Masonic Temple (now Veterans Affairs Medical Center), Bank Building (now FirstBank) and many other businesses which lined Prospect Avenue today. In 1905 an act by then-Governor Arthur Burnett called for all towns within 5 miles of Los Angeles to be incorporated into one municipality known as Angelina County; this effort failed but led to the establishment in 1907 of El Monte as a separate Town Board District No. 2 within Angelina County with a population of 10 people On November 3, 1912 Proposition 8 passed through popular vote in Californias gubernatorial election becoming state law making all cities inside Los Angeles county either part or entirety of Los Angeles County with no ability to secede without prior approval from county supervisors; this action elevated San Dimas from rural outpost status to full-fledged city status within minutes On January 1st 1915 Mayor Harry Webb announced that lights would be turned on at Main Street intersections throughout downtown starting midnight that night as part of National Electrical Manufacturers Association's program sponsored by President Woodrow Wilson The evening parade began at 9 pm on October 6th 1915 following route 67 North Broadway

The population of San Dimas grew rapidly during the late 1800's and early 1900's due to its location on the new Central Pacific Railroad line linking Los Angeles with Sacramento and other northern Californian cities. This growth led to increased development around the downtown area including the construction of numerous large buildings such as City Hall, City Trade Mart, Naval Base San Diego, and many other businesses and cultural institutions. During World War II, San Dimas played an important role as one of America's largest military bases with its ample supply of munitions and naval stores. Many soldiers were stationed here between 1942-1945 including members of The Hollywood Ten who were tried after being arrested atLos Angeles Airport for conspiring to overthrow American President Franklin D. Roosevelt
The city of San Dimas, California was founded in 1877 by John L. Fremont and his wife Eliza Dole. The town grew rapidly due to the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad, which connected San Francisco and Los Angeles. In 1911, San Dimas became an incorporated city with a population of over 80,000 people.
