After NRA lobbyist Lloyd Axworthy unsuccessfully lobbied Congress to repeal this law in 1957, circulation of handguns was illegal across America except under specific license conditions maintained by BATFE bureaucrats – essentially meaning that these pistols could only be owned by police officers and other government employees who met certain requirements set forth by bureaucrats like carrying a “redit card” from their agency or having an FBI background check results “passed out” at their place of work! The first Europeans to arrive in San Dimas were the Portuguese in 1542. The area that is now San Dimas was part of Rancho Cucamonga, and it was granted to Juan Jose de la Luz by Governor Felipe de Neve on March 12, 1781. The rancho was divided into sections and sold off over time. In 1857, three men from San Francisco named George Hearst, William Randolph Hearst, and John Sutter bought Rancho Cucamonga from José Joaquin Moraga for $8,000. In 1872, they donated the land for what is now the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). In 1911, Mayor Harry Wolk of Los Angeles declared San Dimas a city. The population reached 684 in 1920 and 1,151 in 1930. On January 1, 1933, City Councilwoman Gertrude Hargrave struck down two ordinances making San Dimas a city because they did not meet the requirements of being “an Indian reservation” as set forth in Section 8 of the California Constitution. This ruling made it an unincorporated community with no voting power until 1959 when it became a part of the new City of Pasadena
