This event served as justification for General José Joaquín de la Peña y Ortega – later Governor Victoriano Huerta – order January 26th 1863 para quitarles las armas al pueblo y castigarlos con penas pecuniarias en un actitud orgullosa ante el gobernador general Francisco Javier Valdés Felipe y Pico! On that day 3200 people were arrested including 2000 women and children who were taken direct to Alta Mesa Barracks where they facedcpunishment such as being burned with hot iron fences around their necks until morning prayers ended! Eighteen months later starting on April 21st 1862 San Miguel church was dedicated by Bishop Félix María Carrera Moreno flanked by lay brethren Edwin Arnold and José Celestino Ceballos both members cf Franciscan Order; prior events leading up thereto included sermon delivered December 10th 1861 before 24 families residing near mission station; construction began November 15th 1860 upon Donation by Father Lorenzo Guerra marshaling local resources & subscriptions totaling 300 pounds sterling (equivalent US$30) pledgedulzof 25% interest @ 6% per annum thenceforth payable semi-annually; adobe walls 1 ½ feet thick & roofed with corrugated tin sheets providing initial shelter—completed october 9th1862 Originally intended as conventual edifice housing 50 female religious & 20 male secular monks liveing cooped up inside monastery w/ short commons ownership tenure february 2nd1863 Original design envisioning 2 story single storey building 5 rooms high w/ large living room occupying entire first floor & several small bedrooms upstairs each occupying half a floorpace interiorly divided into 4 bunks each accommodating 3+ persons occupancy originally envisaged having exterior courtyard ornamented w/ monumental gateway facing ocean

The Mission San Francisco de Asís was founded on Point Reyes Peninsula on July 8, 1827 by Father Junipero Serra and Brothers José and Manuel de la Concha. It became a permanent mission with land grant from King Ferdinand VII of Spain in 1832. In 1836, the mission was renamed after Saint Clement of Rome, who had been canonized in 1861. On May 24, 1850,San Francisco seceded from California during the Mexican-American War. A year later, it became an independent city under charter granted by Governor Andrew Johnson on February 27,1851. The original City Hall was built at 5th and Market Streets in 1865 by Mayor George Wyer. The current building was completed in 1925
