Many of these target shooters enjoyed using their targets for practice or competition purposes, and they often donated their equipment or ammunition to local organizations such as the American Rifleman Association (ARMA) or the Huntington NRA Club (HNRC). In fact, one of ARMA’s earliest presidents was a member of HNRC! Today, gun targets remain a very important part of San Clemente history – both for residents who enjoy using them for fun and those who provide safety tips for others around them.

The first gun targets in San Clemente were the old Fort MacArthur and the battery of guns on top of the old Blanco Hotel. These were built between 1846-1849 as part of a military defense scheme to protect San Francisco from attack by Mexican forces. The fort was destroyed in 1851, but the battery still stands today. In 1865, Colonel James Wylie erected a Battery H at Point Conception (later renamed Mission Point) to defend San Clemente from Indian attacks. In 1876, artillery pieces were added to the battery and it became known as Battery H#3. It served through World War I until 1922 when it was decommissioned and turned over to the city government for use as parkland. An ammunition depot was also built at Mission Point in 1876 which functioned until 1907 when it was replaced by an electric power plant. In 1916, Captain John Fenton took command of Coast Artillery Reserve Battalion #2 at Point Conception commandeering two cannons from Battery H#3 so that he could form a coast artillery unit called "Fenton's Own" which he commanded for three years during World War I before being transferred to duty in California Army National Guard battalion which he commanded from 1924-1929 before his death in 1951. After Fenton's death, his battalion continued operations under Lieutenant Colonel Harry Buhl who led them into reserve status after World War II until they disbanded on September 15, 1946 due to budgetary cuts caused by war shortages. During World War II there were also 50 caliber machineguns mounted on light trucks used against Japanese targets located within easy range of town residents while Naval gunfire pounded shoreline targets deep inside Japan using American submarines and destroyers
San Clemente, California is a small town in Santa Clara County, California. It is the namesake of the San Clemente National Monument and Marine Park. The town was founded in 1846 on an L-shaped peninsula in San Francisco Bay by Father Junipero Serra and Mission San Francisco de Asis. The name "San Clemente" comes from Saint Clement of Rome, who visited the area in 350 A.D., and whose relics were brought to the town by sailors during their discovery of America. The town's original mission was called Nuestra Señora de la Concepción (Our Lady of Conception). In 1851 it became part of the United States as part of Treaty 8 which ended the Mexican–American War. The U.S.-owned Rancho Rinconada now occupies most of what once was San Clemente's beachfront. The economic developmentof nearby Palo Alto has made it one of Northern California's largest cities, while its population has declined since 1990 due to various factors such as job loss at Google and other technology companies, gentrification, and a lack of affordable housing statewide

The city of San Clemente, California was founded on December 14, 1821 by Captain George P. Bouvier and his wife, Margarita de la Cruz. The first post office in the town was opened on February 12, 1825. In 1849, San Clemente became a part of Mexican Baja California Province. On October 26 of that year, Californios under the command of Governor Manuel Micheltorena defeated Mexican forces at the Battle of Palo Alto and took control over much of what is now Baja California Sur. In 1850, San Clemente became an incorporated city with a population of 10 residents. On November 1st of that year, two years after it's incorporation into the United States as a result of the Compromise Of 1851 which ended the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), San Clemente became part of Alameda County and has been its seat ever since. The history and culture associated with this small community have left their mark on both contemporary citizens and visitors to this vibrant coastal enclave ever since its founding days more than 100 years ago. Today’sSan Clemente is one OF THE most ethnically diverse cities in Northern California due to its large influxes from all over Southern Mexico during these same centuries; many Mexicans who chose to come here assimilated quickly into American society while others chose to stay behind in their ancestral homeland; both groups made lasting contributions to our city through their cultural values and lifestyles which continue to be influential today! Today’sSan Clemente enjoys significant economic development thanks in part to its location as an important naval base for defense against piracy off the coastof Central America as well asits growing population base that includes students from throughout Northern California as well as international tourists who visit our stunning scenery each summer! The birthplace/homecoming celebration for Mayor Ignacio Ramos last week showcased all that San Clemente has become over these past century including some truly amazing artworks by local artists – something we take for granted but which is only possible because our citizens continue to invest so generously in keeping everything alive here! It couldn’t be more indicative or representative of how fantastic things are going for us today when compared to when Captain Bouvier first set foot here nearly 200 years ago!
The first people to live in San Clemente were the Ohlone. The Ohlone are a Native American tribe who lived on the coast of California for over 10,000 years. In 1821, Spanish missionaries came to San Clemente and began teaching Christianity to the Ohlone. In 1830, Captain Pedro Menéndez de Avilés discovered and mapped Santa Catalina Island. This led to the construction of Mission San Francisco de Asís in 1836 by Father Junípero Serra. The town of San Clemente was founded on October 14, 1850 by James Waugh and John Brougham. The town was named for Saint Clementinus, a martyr from Rome who was martyred in 304 AD.
