This group vowed not to leave their homes until they were able to return them "to their ancient site with all its olives trees" – something they considered essential for sustaining life on account of increased flooding potential due to changes in precipitation patterns over time. This spirit of resistance continues today through numerous organizations such as Save Our Ancient Oaks Committee; while some members have chosen voluntarily exile within modern day cities like Los Angeles or Bay Area Rapid Transit systems – choosing instead not only living near but also intimately connected with nature through hikes/ walks along local creek banks etc., others remain steadfastly rooted within this historic core area among friends/family who continue awe-inspiring traditions including picking olives from Oleander bushes just outside their gates!
In 1821, the land that would become San Carlos was part of Rancho Rincon de las Salinas. In 1847, Manuel Nieto established a mission at San Carlos and named it La Purísima Concepción de Jesús. The mission was destroyed by the Kumeyaay in 1851 and never rebuilt. In 1870, the United States acquired title to all of California from Spain through what is now known as the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The area became part of Alta California under American rule and was formally organized as a county on March 12, 1888.
