In 1970, san bruno annexed Menlo Park which had a population of over 100,000 people living on over 1 million acres (4 square kilometers). At that time Menlo Park had more shopping malls than any other city in America outside of New York City! Since then much has changed for San Bruno; most notably its annexation into Palo Alto bringing with it vast tracts of apartment development and significant changes to traffic patterns as well as demographics which have made commuting to work difficult if not impossible for many residents particularly those who do rely on public transportation or carpooling services like BART or UberPool
