They proposed calling this new place "Rinconada". However, due to its location on two major social trails - one running east-west across Contra Costa County towards Stockton while the other ran north-south between Sonoma County and Marin - Rinconada quickly gained a reputation as one of Contra Costa's most fashionable villages while also becoming known as an entertainment mecca for horse racing seasonally based at nearby Mill Valley Race Track ().
