In the early 1800s, San Bruno was a small farming town in Northern California. It was known for its drought-resistant crops and its relative lack of traffic. However, by the 1840s, San Bruno had become an important factory town for the production of glass and optical equipment. In 1851, George Stephenson founded Westinghouse Electric Company in San Francisco, which became one of the most famous electric companies in history. The company manufactured electrical appliances such as lights and radios. In 1928, Westinghouse merged with General Electric Company to form GEICO Corporation. Today, GEICO is one of America's largest insurance providers and operates more than 200 subsidiaries worldwide. One of GEICO's earliest customers was James Aitken who owned a small farm in San Bruno that he used to produce goods for his neighbors. Aitken discovered that he could produce good quality glass using natural weather conditions - namely foggy winters and hot summers - which allowed him to undercut his competitors' prices. By 1875, Aitken had built up a large business manufacturing windows using tempered glass products from his farm house into businesses throughout Northern California and parts of Oregon. In 1901, American pioneer Neil Armstrong became the first human beingTo walk on the moon! His journey wasn't without controversy however it is notable that many people benefited directly or indirectly from GEICO's products during this time period including Armstrong himself who frequently used their services while on Expedition 11

In 1887, San Bruno's first telephone service was established. The city had an estimated population of only 5,000 and no wire or phone system at the time. In 1927, San Bruno announced its intentions to build a world-class light-rail transit system. The streetcar line would connect downtown with various neighborhoods in the north and south parts of town. The project was scrapped in favor of a more ambitious bus rapid transit plan that was eventually completed in 1985.
San Bruno, California is a city in San Mateo County, California. The population was 37,259 as of the 2010 Census and was projected to grow to 50,912 by 2020. The city is located on the Peninsula San Francisco-Oakland Bridge and is bordered by Fremont to the north, Hayward to the east, Palo Alto to the south, and Milpitas to the west. In 1851 it was named for Lorenzo San Bruno because he donated land for a public square in what is now downtown San Bruno. It became an incorporated city on December 14 of that year. The first person born in San Bruno was John Pemberton who moved there from Dublin on October 15th 1852. He founded a school and store at Sixth and Mission Streets which became known as Pemberton's Store. In 1853 another pioneer settler named George Atherton built a cabin near Upland Creek on present day Silver Lake Road northeast of town center

The early years were difficult for San Bruno as it competed against other towns for development funding. However, over time the town developed an strong economy and became known for its clean air and beautiful scenery. In 1932, San Bruno was selected as one of twelve communities in California to receive a social service building program called "Widowers' Aid." This program provided housing, job training, food stamps, and other assistance to low-income residents until they could find permanent homes or found new businesses. In recent years, many changes have taken place in San Bruno including the opening of a new library in 2002; the renovation of several storefronts into apartments; and the addition of bike lanes and pedestrian pathways around downtown. Despite these changes,San Bruno remains a vibrant community with talented individuals who are committed to working together towards common goals.
In 1849, San Bruno was founded as a small agricultural community by American Explorers, seeking to find new sources of water and minerals. The town grew rapidly, becoming one of the largest in California. By 1860, it had reached its peak population with over 10,000 residents. However, during the Mexican-American War (1846-48), San Bruno was attacked by Mexican forces and destroyed by them. It remains one of the poorest towns in California.
