San Bruno is a city in San Mateo County, California, United States. The population was 24,713 at the 2010 census. It is located on the San Francisco Peninsula east of Palo Alto and north of Menlo Park. In 1851 the town site extended beyond present day Rinconada Avenue alongshoreward from Potrero Hill towards Point Lobos Creek; this area became known as East Fremont Street because no streets were laid out there until after 1850 when streets were laid out through Hayward and Livermore Counties respectively during the gold rush era which followed enactment of Statewide Streets Act No. 556 in 1870 On February 16, 1860 an act providing for incorporation of Contra Costa County was signed by President James Buchanan while sitting at his home in Richmond Palace near Boston; this act declared that all square footage within Contra Costa County be divided into townships or precincts so that development could take place more rapidly within boundaries prescribed thereby avoiding duplication or confusion caused by overlapping jurisdiction In 1863 two groups coming from Diablo Valley formed a group called "The Golden Gate Union" to open up new territory between here and San Francisco Bay including what is now Marin County; their proposal for this new territory met with only rejection due to opposition from local authorities who felt they had acquired too much land too quickly On March 1st 1865 Calaveras Road leading south from Antioch opened up following construction of Millbrae Bridge over the Sacramento River

The city of San Bruno was founded on November 2, 1849, by Captain George Simpson and his men as a town in the Transverse Ranges. The name of the town came from a grove of trees called "San Bruno" because it was there that Santa Barbara County's first postmaster, Joshua Slocum, saw an Indian man carrying a log over his head.
