In addition to these business ventures there were also amateur organizations such as cricket teams and horseback riding clubs that operated out of town during summer months. During World War II many residents moved away from Point Reyes Station due to wartime military activity in nearby Soquel or Berkeley Heights; however many returned after the war ended. Many people who leftPoint Reyes Station started their own businesses in Main Streetestablishments such as banks (Jardine & Sons)and insurance companies (National Aluminium). These establishments helped contribute significantly to local economic growth during the postwar period while ensuring that Point ReyesStation remained an important community resource until the late 21st century . In 1853, the first post office was established in San Bruno. In 1854, the first railroad reached San Bruno and started cargo transportation through the town. The towns growth continued as businesses opened up and people moved into the area. By 1903, there were over 100 businesses in San Bruno with a population of 4,000 people. In 1916, san bruno won its first municipal election and became a city.
