The city of San Bruno, located in Northern California, is home to over 100,000 people and is the largest city in Marin County. The city was founded on October 25, 1865 by James Noyes and his wife Mary Ann Noyes. The original name for the city was San Francisco de Asís. On July 14, 1872, the City of San Bruno voted to change its name toSan Bruno because it was symbolic of the new town's growing population and Industrial Development Authority (IDA) money grant from federal coffers. In 1951, the City Council changed its name again to San Bruno after a petition drive by citizens. According to the 2010 census report,[1] there are now over 100,000 residents living in San Bruno village including about 7500 students attending local high schools as well as 5000 employees at 3200 businesses.[2][3] The first Europeans to visit what is now San Bruno were members of an American party led by John Cranch that traveled through northern CA in 1827-28. Native Americans had been known to live near where modern day Marin County sits but no permanent settlements were made until white men arrived during Californias Gold Rush period in 1849-1852 when prospectors discovered rich veins of gold and silver under Swenzel Hill along with other mineral claims nearby. A group led by James Noyes landed on November 12th 1850 on Mission Bayou just east of modern day downtown San Bruno while exploring for gold only leaving behind jars filled with coins which turned out not be worth anything due to low grades found elsewhere in those hills however they did spur further exploration which eventually resulted in the founding of what would become today’s Marin County exactly one year later on December 17th 1850 by twelve footers named James Leland and Nicholas Applegate while riding their horse herd into what would become Point Reyes Station[4]. It wasn't until 1863 that a post office called Mount Diablo was established at present day downtown San Francisco when mail service started between Santa Clara Valley (northwest coast) and Monterey Peninsula (southwest coast). It wasn't until 1875 when a school district called North Beach District No. 1 reported receiving complaints from citizens about getting services from Los Angeles because many “young gentlemen” were moving into town wondering if they wouldn’t get “a good education like their fathers had” so North Beach District No. 2 set up shop online providing primary instruction for two years before transitioning into secondary school operations starting September 1870 with eighty four students attending instruction at five locations: Fort Mason (now part of Marina), Geary Street School Annex/Elma High School/Doris Kearney Middle School; Alameda Female College; [5][6] 24th St./Ender destroyed by fire March 1865 - replaced soon afterwards with Colusa Female College opened April 1865[7]. By 1880 there were over 350 pupils enrolled at North Beach District 2 facilities plus another twenty four teachers who provided instructional support staff totaling six hundred fifty nine children taking classes here compared to today’s handful consisting mostly of adjunct professors teaching various specialties without full or tenure track positions[8][9]. From 1876-1881 a PACIFIC RAILROAD developed through much Northern California using bluffs overlooking Point Reyes Station as an early terminus then proceeding northwest via Redwood National Park crossing northward below Castro Valley before reaching Sonoma County some thirty miles later linking up with BART just south of Petaluma)[10]. In 1886 Pacific Electric Railway reached topography above Point Reyes Station permitting goods trains running side-by-side reducing travel time between these two points making it convenient for farmers westof Sonoma River operating their own railroads such as Buena Vista Railroad Company extending passenger service beyond Napa &Sonoma Counties westto Yuba City also connecting with BART terminals throughout Silicon Valley adding an extra layerCommerce westering populations increasing rapidly especially since completion Interstate 80 freeway following northwesterly route just outside town limits paralleling railroad right-of way creating easy access hither&hither bounding unincorporated areas annexation resulting within 1960 boundary changes expanding boundaries still further circa 2020[11]. note – currently only several small portions inside incorporated area(s) remain unincorporated.. Today most events take place outside incorporated area primarily within adjacent unincorporated areas

By 1920, the population ofSan Bruno had grown to over 10,000 people and it was still an important spot in the valley because of its wine production and Apple growing capabilities. In 1949, San Bruno began experiencing heavy growth due to newly developed technology companies moving into the area including Hewlett-Packard and Motorola. Many new businesses moved into downtown San Bruno including several restaurants and bars that continue to operate today such as Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery which is now part of MillerCoors Brewing Company; Stonehenge which is now a hotel; Jamba Juice; Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream; Red Lobster; KFC ; Applebees ; Chili’s ; Spurs Pizza ; East Side Lounge ; Regal Cinemas . While many businesses have since left or relocated away from downtownSan Bruno however many local residents remain constant customers at their favorite establishments
In 1849, San Bruno was one of the first towns in California to be founded. The town was named for General Manuel Nieto, who led a military expedition against the Native Americans in 1847.
