In the year 2015, San Bernardino County was the deadliest in the United States with a total of 21 shootings. The majority of these shootings were related to gun violence and homicides. In 1976 a new police station was built which included state-of-the-art technology including video surveillance systems and facial recognition software which helped identify fugitives." On September 14th 2017 local media reported shots being fired inside a high school in El Cajon before later reports indicating that two people have died after shooting themselves multiple times inside the building

The city of San Bernardino was founded in 1795 as a small rancho on the current site of Riverside County.
