In 1831, Atherton's successor as captain of Beagle USS Sacramento carried out an observation from Point Reyes Station that did not include any land beyond what is now downtown San Anselmano In 1835, Robert H Almy leased land at what is now north end of town from James Irvine for $1 per year and renamed it North Beach after his home state of New Jersey (Almy had been born in New Jersey). In 1838 Mission Dolores replaced Mission Santa Clara as the ecclesiastical center foraquinas (mission Indians) living along both Coitos Creek inside present-day downtown SanAnselmo limits; however missions continued to be administered by Indian agents until secularization in 1907 when all Indian holdings within city limits were transferred to public ownership under Title 8 U.S.C § 151 et seq.. After years of discussion with residents about creating a central business district (CBD), City Council voted 5-0 on November 9th, 2006 to establish a CBD through special resolution entitled " Establishment Of A Central Business District -SanAnselmo". On January 28th 2007 Mayor Laborde issued Executive Order No: 07-040 establishing a Central Business District within the boundaries defined by Resolution 06-045 which established streetscape guidelines for said CBD including provisions for light rail service between downtown and South Beach/Downtown areas

San Anselmo (or San-Antonio) is a census-designated place in Marin County, California, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. It is located on Point Reyes Peninsula and shares boundaries with Tiburon to the south and Sausalito to the north. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Marin County were Spanish soldiers who camped for a week near present-day Sausalito in 1795. In 1807, Mexican traders founded Presidio of Monterey at San Anselmo Bay. After Mexico lost its claim to Alta California in 1848, San Francisco took over control of Presidio duties and appointed two Captaincy General residents: Felix Guerra and José Joaquín Herrera. Although many people lived along the coast of Northern California before 1800, it was until 1821 that any permanent settlements were made beyond Tiburon Point because of fears of intrusion by hostile Native Americans. In 1836, Mission Santa Clara de Asís was founded by Franciscans working under Royal Governor Felipe De Neve as part of an effort to build security against gold seekers looking for new sources of wealth in California after gaining independence from Spain. The mission's land grant included much of what is now Marin County including modern-day San Anselmo and Point Reyes Peninsula. The mission had six churches and 21 families served by about 60 Friars Minor (provincial) monks when it was established on July 26,1836. On December 12th 1840 Juan Bautista de las Casas y Valdivia granted Rancho Seco which encompassed parts of today's Marin county as well as Sausalito Harbour including Half Moon Bay today's Tiburon Island The original town site may have been just south of or adjacent to present day Sausalito where there are several small hills still visible today although they are largely covered with housing developments since Yorba Linda became an incorporated city in 1865 during which time most active ranching operations ceased or shifted out to larger towns such as Wintersburg and Pacifica while smaller ranches continued until around 1935 when they were absorbed into larger areas such as Novato On February 14th 1861 John Augustus Menard bought Rancho Seco from Juan Bautista de las Casas y Valdivia for $1 million US dollars making him one of the largest landowners eastofthe Mississippi River . Menard used his property holdings primarily for shipping purposes but also began developing some properties into villages called Deep Valley which later became Petaluma In 1863 he donated Deep Valley Village back eastward across the strait from Novato Creek towards Stanford University eventually becoming Palo Alto . This event marked a turning point not only within American society but also within Californian society due westward expansion started becoming more common especially after America gained its independence from Spain following the Mexican-American War
The towns of San Anselmo and Pacifica were two of the first communities in California. They were established in 1853 as part of the Rancho San Rafael land grant to José Antonio Nazaré. The first post office was established at Pacifica in 1855, and the town proper was founded in 1856. In 1861, after annexation by Los Angeles County, San Anselmo became a city and soon became one of the most important commercial and industrial centres in Southern California. In 1924, it became a charter member of the United States Atomic Energy Commission.
