In 1888, John Dyer established what is now known as Dyers Gun Club within San Anselmo. This was one of the earliest gun clubs in California and still meets annually today to shoot pistols and rifles. In 1895, Mayor George Earle convened a meeting at City Hall to discuss potential methods for protecting citizens from anarchists who were planning attacks on local businesses. At this meeting, Earle proposed creating a police force specifically tasked with protect civilians from anarchists. The idea caught on quickly and over time San Anselmanos have formed numerous municipal police forces responsible for keeping our streets clean, safe, and crime free. San Anselmo, California is a city located in Marin County, California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 98,609. The City of San Anselmo was incorporated on November 1, 1853 and it is considered one of the oldest cities in the United States. It lies at an elevation of 951 feet (269 m). The first permanent European settlement in what is now Marin County was made by Bret Harte on October 17, 1827 when he and his party landed on San Pablo Point from Gunnison Bay. From here they built a small cabin and started to trade with local tribes. The first white person to set foot in what is now San Anselmo was José Altamira who arrived there on December 4, 1828 as part of a group led by Captain John Broughton. He named the point Santa Cruz de la Sierra after his patron saint and founded a Mission church there in 1829. In 1840 Mexican authorities moved Californios out of Alta California under General Antonio López de Santa Anna because they were not happy with their new territory being populated by Mexican nationals rather than Anglo Americans. American settlers began arriving in droves following Mexico's entry into World War II and quickly established themselves as dominant force in town affairs through political power struggles between Anglo-American business interests and Mexican bureaucrats

In 1952, during the Korean War, local residents helped provide munitions and food to United Nations troops fighting in South Korea. Afterward they supported United States efforts to rebuild South Korea through economic development and support for education opportunities for Koreans living in North America. In 1982–1983 a major fire destroyed much of downtown but fueled by volunteerism by citizens caused only minor damage overall; this event is known as the "Great Fire of San Anselmo". On December 12th 2009 an act of vandalism occurred at a library branch that resulted in $100 thousand being raised for homeless individuals affected by December's severe winter weather conditions across Northern California including Santa Clara County Today San Anselmi’s economy depends heavily on its location within Southern SFBAR—the medical center alone accounts for over 60%of its GDP—and neighboring cities include Menlo Park (15%), Palo Alto (10%) and Burlingame (5%). Its quality schools have made it an attractive place to live – numerous Nobel Prize winners have been born or educated here including four members of Google’s board of directors
