The brothers sold off some land within San Anselmo Municipality for gold mining operation so that more people could have access to this valuable resource whilestill living close enough to enjoy all that San Francisco offered from its various markets1). By 1860 there were 2 paper mills along Sausalito Creekowned by Messrs James & Son1) making paper products such as ballots & tickets; notions like groceries etc.;[and] boots & shoes...a big trade item at that time!
