On April 14th of that year, Pope Pius XI designated San Anselmo as one of nineteen American cities entitled to receive Italian immigrants who were skilled in their industry or commerce. In 1923 Father John J. Feehan arrived from Claremont Abbey Preparatory School and upon his arrival instituted Holy Rosary programs for all students in grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade which continues today as part of Catholic education within the City Schools district system. He also founded Stonington High School which then became one of Marin County's first magnet high schools before merging with Antioch High School in 2004 to create what is now known as Marin Catholic High School District No. 8 (MCADD No. 8). Father Feehan also served as pastor at Our Lady’s Chapel from 1922 until his death on November 2, 1984; he left behind an lasting legacy where many people are baptized into Christ every day through our chapel services and religious formation opportunities offered there each weeknight throughout the school year – whether they know it or not!

However, in recent decades its population has slowly continued to decline as well, reaching only 15,000 as of 2015.
