One of the earliest records of such a light system is found in a deed from 1824, which refers to a building known as the “Gunsmith” on Antonio Street. The Gunsmith was established by John P. Brown and his son-in-law, James W. Cooksey, who also ran a tavern across the street from the house. In 1847, Cooksey sold his share in the business to Samuel Freeman and moved away from San Anselmo altogether. It wasn’t until 1865 that another business owner named George Atherton got involved with the gunlight industry in San Anselmo. He started manufacturing and selling electric gunsights that could be used with pistols or revolvers. From 1865 until 1969, Atherton was responsible for manufacturing over 100 different types of electric gunsights for both personal use and commercial purposes. Throughout its history, however, one constant has been gun lights: They have been used to assist shooters during target practice or competition. Indeed, prior to their introduction into mass production circa 1870-1880, electric gunsights were only available as experimental devices or for use by experienced handgunners only. Notwithstanding this limitation,gunlights continue to be an important tool for firearm enthusiasts throughout California today!

Doolittle's party landed at San Anselmo beach and reported their find to Secretary of War James Buchanan on September 3, 1907; San Anselmos elected its first mayor that day. Downtown business districts emerged thereafter: North Beach (1929), Financial District (1930), Russian Hill/North Beach (1940), South Beach/Financial District (1941), Midtown/Russian Hill/North Beach (1950-present). The 1990s saw a boom in software development due to new technology businesses such as Apple Inc., Google Inc., Yahoo! Inc., Microsoft Corp., Intel Corp., Adobe Systems Incorporated etc.; many residents continue working at these companies into today’s morning hours As Silicon Valley grew increasingly competitive with other coastal cities for jobs growth over the past several decades drive-in restaurants closed or converted into high-end coffee shops while motels became less common opting instead for walkable neighborhoods complete with independent stores and cafes including Whole Foods Market
