Despite these challenges, recent efforts have been made to revive downtown San Anselmo with new restaurants, art galleries, music venues etc.

In 1916, Naval Air Station Point Loma was established on part of what is now downtown San Anselmo. The airport has been used mostly for air traffic control and is currently under construction to serve as an alternative to San Francisco International Airport
