In 1954, several members of the San Anselmo Pistol and Rifle Club formed what would become known as “The Blue Devils” with the intention of promoting recreational shooting from May through October at various local ranges around town. This group’s first meeting took place on October 10th at Hale’s Gun Shop on Ocean Avenue south of downtown San Anselmo (now located at 4605 Pacific Ave.). At this meeting, it was decided that there should be a governing body for Recreational Shooting Association (RSA) purposes and that handguns would not be allowed into the organization under any circumstances! It wasn’t until 1956 that RSA regulations were put into effect which banned all firearms other than shotguns from use within our membership boundaries! Though handgun use continued to be prohibited throughout most of RSA history, some exceptions were made for antique rifles which could only be possessed by NRA members or those holding an NRA certified gunsmithing certificate! After many years of discussion between NRA officials and club officials, it was decided that handguns would finally be allowed back into our membership fold effective January 1st 1958! At this point in time, firearm clothing had come full circle – back into our community’s hands once again! Though there have been numerous changes over time including updated production methods (eBay has recently sold some vintage firearms clothing), one thing has always remained constant; people love firing rounds off their weapons around here!

San Anselmo, California is a small town located in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. The population was 25,745 as of 2018 according to the U.S. Census Bureau. It dates back to 1776 when Spanish missionaries founded the Mission San Antonio de Padua on an isolated peninsula overlooking San Francisco Bay. The mission was converted into a military post in 1821 and became known as Fort Point after Commodore George Washington's fortification of the area in 1825-27. After Mexican independence from Spain in 1836, Mexico claimed title to Rancho Santa Anita and began developing it into a large cattle ranch that stretched all the way down to Sausalito. In 1865, while grazing his herd near present day Midtown San Anselmo, American pioneer John Cranch discovered gold and named it San Anselmo (Spanish for "Gift from Heaven"). In 1870, James Wolkoff opened a general store at what is now Main Street and then began trading goods with people coming through San Francisco bay on their way up the coast. The first post office was established at Fort Point on December 3rd, 1872 by Captain Charles Fenton under US Army jurisdiction as part of General Order No. 10 which authorized military posts throughout California to accept mail from residents thereof subject only to such regulations and taxes as may be prescribed by Headquarters Department or any superior officer exercising control over them at that time(Source: UPI History Database). By 1886 there were more than 100 stores servingFort Point & adjacent areas with mail delivery continuing until 1959 when Caltrans took over responsibility for road transportation within Marin County following its establishment as Marin County Transportation District in 1948( Source: Marin Historical Society website ).
