At first there was only one store until 1895 when two stores were built side by side on First Street near Bank of America Building which still stands today as Pioneer Plaza; across from where IMAX Cinema now stands. In 1896 both stores closed due to fire but reopened within a week with new fabricatorships including JCPenney & Co., Sears Roebuck & Co., Macy's New York Store and others soon after before finally closing for good in 1902. In 1907 Alice Morse Brown opened her first grocery store at 8th & Market Streets which became known as Brown's Drug Store until 1955 when it merged with Safeway Incorporated; then renamed FoodsMart Incorporated before being rebranded Albertsons Corporation until its sale to QFC Companies LLC in 2013 In 1916 fruit grower Jack Fenton took over operation of Wahlgren's Soda Fountain on 4th Street between Center Street and Market Street which served ice cream through 1938 when it became known as Fenton's Dairy Mart - later renamed simply "Fenton" - until its closure in 1983 . A stop also served baseball games at old High School Stadium called "The Park." On December 5th 1912 an oil well 27 miles northeast of town started producing gasbearing crude oil shale; Mayor Harry Goodwin authorized drilling operations January 9th 1913 resulting in incorporation of local company “ Western GAS Drilling Company” into Corporal Frisco Oil Company Limited Partnership with Harry Goodwin as President ranches 710 acres adjoining town limits granting him exclusive rights for development . By 1915 salinity levels had reached dangerous levels causing state health officials ordered all wells immediately shutdown ; governor Calvin Coolidge ordered state agencies involved halted because he feared public outcry should lead to state government takeover Although some wells were drilled successfully additional wells proved unsuccessful leading To Edward Ewing Sr.'s purchase of interest sharesJanuary 1923 becoming Eastern GAS Ltd.;

After World War II, efforts were made by both local officials and national advocates to preserve San Joaquin River Deltaaung (now Sacramento) as open space via legislation such as Save Our Deltaaung Act (1948). This effort resulted in significant public investment into land restoration projects which have since stabilized much of eastern Sacramento Valley watersheds including portions of Anza Borrego National Park and Cathedral City
In 1821, Mexican land grantee Jose Maria Salinas donated 8,000 acres of rich salt-cedar and oak forest to the United States. The area now known as Salinas County was part of Alta California. In 1846, after Mexico lost its independence from Spain, the US acquired most of what is now California by purchase through the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This new state included much of the present-day Salinas County.
