Salinas, California is a city in the U.S. state of California, located on the Salinas River delta and about halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. As of 2010 it had a population of 148,409. The name "Salinas" comes from Spanish missionaries who named the river after the town of Santo Domingo de los Padres (now part of Mexico City). The first Russians to set foot in America arrived in 1821 aboard the "Espíritu Santo". They were followed by other Russian traders and adventurers overlander such as Peterkin, Fyodor Chukhov, Ivan Fedorovich Krasnopolsky and Nikolai Petrovich Zaporozhsky. In 1846 Mexican land grantee José Murillo y el Búsque granted an area now bounded by First Street on the east, Paseo del Norte on the west, Interstate 15 on the north and Telegraph Road on Broadway to United States Senator Antonio Garza for development as Rancho El Sobrante. In 1865 Anthony Boucher bought 10 acres (4 ha) south of present-day Salinas for $500USD with plans to grow wheat and barley. A few years later he donated an acre (2 ha) to nearby Bishop's College for use as a stud farm where cattle were raised until 1888 when they were moved to larger ranches near Healdsburg in Sonoma County when that county was created from portions of Monterey County
On July 26, 1875, the U.S. Patent No. 711,898 was issued to George Peabody for a new cartridge designed to shoot metallic cartridges with a much greater range than existing rounds. This new cartridge would become known as the Peabody round and remain in use until 1897 when it was replaced by the more common Winchester round. The first metallic cartridges were created in 1795 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and Christiaan Huygens when they developed a new way to fire small arms ammunition using wax powder and lead balls instead of shot. The early experiments with such ammunition were not successful but provided an opportunity for development of what would become the modern rifle caliber .22LR rimfire cartridge. It should be noted that the original metallic cartridges used only lead balls while later versions used wax powders as well. Lead ball technology was not available until about 1840 which is why these early Metallic Cartridge rounds did not have great ranges when fired offhand at short distances like today’s Rimfire Ammunition does. Eventually, all major firearms manufacturers including Winchester and Colt produced their own types of Metallic Cartridges which continued to be popular up until 1898 when both companies switched over to using the more common Winchester round in all their products
The first shotgun ammunition was created in 1836 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte and James Fenton. Shotguns were originally designed to shoot birds, but the new round quickly became popular for shooting humans. The first shotgun cartridges were made of a lead shot that was fired from a muzzleloader. These rounds were very powerful and effective, but they were risky to use because of the lead content. In 1847, Colonel John Browning developed a new type of shotgun cartridge that used cordite instead of lead. This bullet was much more stable and could be fired with greater accuracy than other shotguns rounds at the time. In 1855, Captain Samuel Colt produced his own handgun which utilized rimfire Remington ammunition. This ammo had a high capacity and allowed users to fire many shots at once without having to reload.

Huerta was unsuccessful and retreated into central Mexico City before being replaced by General Antonio López de Santa Anna as president of Mexican America. After the war ended in 1865, many Anglo Americans came to live in what is now Salinas County because of new job opportunities created by railroads and other economic developments that emerged during Reconstruction in America. The county seat moved from Shasta City to Salinas in 1865.
