The history of the Sacramento gun target community can be traced back to at least 1907. That year, a group of men from Sacramento traveled to West Point, New York to take part in an artillerynery demonstration. Upon their return, they brought back a trunkload of target pistols and shotguns that they had made themselves. The rifles and shotguns were put on display at the local gun showroom, where they met with approval from the clientele. Soon after, the men decided to create their own shooting range in what is now known as the old California Armory building on 4th Street. Through hard work and dedication, these men built up a successful business over time. In 1957, they moved into their current facility on 17th Street SE and continue to operate today as one of Sacramento’s most successful businesses. Their mission has always been to provide quality targets for shooters of all levels of experience. Today, there are nearly 100 members located throughout Northern California who come together annually for Shootout America events at the old California Armory building on 4th Street SE. These events are an important source of competition and friendship for these enthusiasts who enjoy sharing in each others’ hobbies!
