The old army barracks/ susceptorium now houses the Roseville Chamber of Commerce & Industry building on 3rd Street SW between Washington Blvd./Peralta Dr./Sutter Ave., across from Cal Expo/Roseville High School In 1957, construction began on Interstate 80 through the heart of downtown; this freeway would eventually be renamed I-5 south to avoid confusion with nearby Livermore Valley Airport which opened just north of town on October 25th of that same year while downtowns major arteries continued to be named US routes 50 (northwest), 101 (southwest), 594 (east), and 99A (south). On January 1st 1960 – less than one month after I-80 was completed – both arterials were redesignated as state routes 140 (#1 eastbound)and 145 (#2 westbound). As part of this project SR 140 Alternate extended south from I-580 eastward past Roseville through Orinda into Livermore Valley Airport Territory joining I-5 there shortly afterwards while State Route 145 Alternate remained concurrent with SR 100W until it was renumbered as CA 128 (#1 eastbound)in 1986 following completion of CA 95 north from Livermore Valley Airport Territory back into Roseville . Roseville is a city in Sacramento County, California, United States. The population was 22,753 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Sacramento County after Folsom and the largest city east of the Sierra Nevada. Roseville is also one of the fastest-growing cities in California. The first permanent settler in what is now Roseville was George Cason, who arrived on November 10, 1847 from Stockton and named his new land "Cason's Grove." The town site was surveyed by Capt. John Sutter and Felix Granger on March 15, 1848 under the joint auspices of both men; but there was no junction made between them and they continued to surveyseparately. A plat of town appeared on this date with four square blocks laid out streets running northwesterly from Broadway (present day 1st Street) to First Avenue (now 4th Street), east along First Avenue to 2nd Street which lay immediately southwesterly of present-day Pioneer Park (3rd street). On July 16, 1849 James Waddell purchased Lots 5 & 6 in Townsite #1 for $100 cash only – making it one of the earliest organized settlements west of the Rocky Mountains! On February 20, 1850 an act were passed authorizing Captain John Sutter and Mr. Felix Granger to Surveys Land Claim No. 9 opposite where phlegm had been discovered on January 17th near mile post 7 ½ below Jackson Lake bed & above water level - thus founding Roseville as one of Northern California’s early towns! A post office called Roseville was established in October 1850 by Captn John Sutter with Pte Felix Granger as Postmaster! The original building still stands today at corner 3rd St./Pioneer Park Ave., just south of Pioneer Park off I-5 Northbound lanes! After Captain John Sutter’s death in 1851 his widow kept his house until sold to Hyrum Carpenter about 1880 due largely to her efforts; then it became home for many years to Mrs Helen Morse prior to its sale again circa 1970 back into private hands again….. In 1870 Lizzie Borden moved into her grand parents home across from Mainstreet when she married William Addison Borden…. By 1890 almost all businesses had closed down due lack of customers during a time when transportation options where expensive & unreliable…. Mrs Borden donated/leased property along MainStreet adjacent to Post Office until 1921 when that property also became part of Pioneer Park…. In 1924 Dr Roy Wilburn started a hospital here which helped turn around RosesVILLE after being struggling through times before that….. Today we enjoy two Parks: one right next door (Pioneer Park) while another park has recently been constructed just off I-5 Northbound lane known as Pinehurst Meadows located adjacent Interstate 5 exit 13B
