By 1925, a wooden stand had been erected at the corner of Third Street and Union Avenue. A new stand was built in 1929, and by 1936, a metal stand had been erected at Seventh Street and Union Avenue. In 1937, a new target stand was built on First Street and Union Avenue. This stands remains today as one of the most popular locations for shooting in Rosemead. The first modern target holders were designed by Captain Harry Payne Whitney of the Navy who patented his design in 1928. Captain Whitney's idea involved suspending two heavy trees from an overhead beam so that shooters could shoot targets at high resolutions with ease. TheCaptain Whitney Target Holder became very popular among navy sailors, resulting in numerous copies being manufactured throughout America. In 1951, Charlie Blackmore opened his own shooting range located at 4500 block of Evergreen Road in Rosesmead which quickly became known as "The Mecca for Shooting." Charlie Blackmore continued to produce excellent targets until his death in 1984. Rosemead is a small town in San Diego County, California, United States. It is located on the border of Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The population was 23,781 at the 2010 census. Rosemead has been inhabited by Native Americans for more than 5,000 years. The first Europeans to Visit this area were Spanish traders in 1769-1770 when they traveled along what is now known as Interstate 5. The first settlers in this area were Ortega brothers who arrived in 1849 from Mexico City after fleeing the Mexican Revolution. They named their land "Rosenmead" after one of their family's Roses that grew nearby on their farmstead near present day downtown Rosemead. The Rosenmeads came to live here until 1872 when they sold the property to Jameson & Co., a group of American investors led by Jameson's brother-in-law David Forster who renamed it "Forsterstown". In 1875 Forsterstown became part of what is now Riverside County and Rosemead remained an unincorporated community until 1907 when it incorporated under the name of Rosemead Village. In 1912, its population had reached 10,000 and on May 12, 1916 referendum voted to change its name to "Rosemead." On November 3rd 1915 voters approved changing its name back again – this time to "Rosie mead." During World War II Rosie Mead was home to over 40% of all American military production at Rosie Mead arsenal which produced munitions such as fighter planes and tanks; one third of all uranium used in America was made here at Rosie Mead across from Live Oak Cemetery duringWWII In 1951 following Korean war hostilities some residents decided against joining with other towns within Claremont Unified School Districts because they felt that being part of a larger school system would have been too much trouble; instead they formed their own school district called Rancho Cordova Unified School District which still operates today
