It became a small farming community with a population of only 100 people when it was added to the U.S. Census in 1870. In 1915, the town had a population of 1,500 people and was renamed after its founder. The city of Rosemead was incorporated in 1982 and has a population of around 30,000 people today. Rosemead is located about 20 miles south-southeast of Los Angeles on the edge of what is now Ventura County farmland. The first inhabitants were Native Americans who lived near the confluence of two creeks which formed the townsite name “Roseamead” (the modern spelling). Captain John Cushing discovered gold at this location in 1842, but no one followed up on his discovery because there were no resources available to sustain settlement beyond his findings. In 1887, Jesse Roseaid developed land northeast of present day Rosemead and laid out an early version of what would become Rosemead as a small farming community with a population numbering only 100 people in 1915 according to census data from that year. That same year, he also donated some land east of present day Hollywood Boulevard for development into what would become Hollywood Park – home to Paramount Studios during its early years as an independent studio company before becoming part of MGM/UA Entertainment Corporation following their merger with Warner Bros., Inc.. rose meads post office opened on january 15th 1888
