Englishman George Vancouver discovered petroleum resources along the coast in 1792 and named the area North Bay after Lord Northumberland’s estate at nearby Vail Point where he had landed his ship HMS Beagle on October 10, 1802 under command of Captain James Cook – one year before Rohnert Park became part of California. A United States Exploring Expedition led by Lieutenant John Cranch explored the region in 1836-37 and reported back that oil wells could be found at present day Geyserville near Napa Valley while also describing valuable vineyards and other agricultural resources along Lake Sonoma. On July 13, 1856 General Samur Smith declared that Rancho Rinconada Mexican land grant with 4 prospecting claims extending from Geyserville to Napa Valley had been allotted unto him for settlement by Free People Of America following their victory at Adobe Creek against Mexican forces under Colonel José Joaquin Herrera y Costilla – thus creating Rohnert Park which later included parts of today’s Santa Clara County. In 1865 Drilling Pioneers seeking oil wells began drilling into shale formations beneath what is now eastern Rohnert Park high school property while prospectors also drilled into Lafayette Hills northwest of today’s downtown district; these activities continued until 1868 when production ceased due to low prices for gasoline caused by lack of available shale gas resources (-$2 per barrel) compared with current $30-$50 barrels/day values requiring deeper drilling depths & larger reservoirs plus longer Hilgard Days for development In 1888 Los Angeles Electric Railway Company leased 1/3 interest in Geyserville Railroad Station from Will Hutton for use as its terminal station on its line running southward from downtown Los Angeles through Orange County then northeast through Riverside County finally terminating at Needles just westofthe Pacific Ocean . This createdGeyserville Village which developed around original building fronts along Center Street between Gattuso Avenue & Masonic Drive . From 1905-1910 post office moved from Monterey Building east side Main Street between Gattuso Avenue - Masonic Drive to new building designed by architect Edward Burnham on corner lot adjoining First National Bank building now occupied by Home Depot store . At same time various other businesses opened including grocery store - Mrs. Daugherty established 1901 ; movie theater - Leland Howard built 1912 ; beauty shop - LaVerne Mitchell established 1913 ; doctor's office - Doctor Brounkel moved 1915 . By 1920 there were 15 businesses with a population over 100 individuals It should be noted that although early inhabitants may have been Native Americans who hunted deer & bear within park boundaries some did not report any human activity within park boundaries until 1863 when membersOf Mission Santa Cruz saw Indians playing “war paint” game near upper Wheeler Springs creek outside modern day Arlington Heights Park Superintendent J P Farrell described this period as “the wildest days [of] all my long career hereabouts; we shot buffalo off Big Blue Hill (!), drove cattle over those big hills west past Geyserville Canyon (!)and down into those gorges below Menlo Park (?), killed lions & tigers (& probably two or three bears too!), played ball every morning out behind our house right up until 2 PM during SCHOOL DAYS AND ALSO AT NIGHT WHEN WE WENT TO WATCH THE STARS! Oh boy what fun that must have been! What memories still survive inside our minds even 50 years later! It is located on the east bank of the San Francisco Bay between San Pablo andBurlingame rivers. The first Europeans to visit Rohnert Park were Explorers John C. Frémont and José Francisco de El Dorado, who explored what would become Contra Costa County in 1847-48 while on their way to found Berkeley. In 1868, Auguste Renoir Studios set up shop here as part of his summer colony of artists at Point Reyes Station on Humboldt Bay. A year later, photographer Edward Weston visited and photographed landscapes near Rohnert Park before moving to Marin County in 1870. In 1907, when American Samoa became an independent country under U.S trusteeship following World War I, its residents voted to call themselves "Rohnert Parkites." In 1930 they adopted a new name: City of Oaks—a tribute to Mayor George Prentice's vision for the community that included mixed use housing developments with parkland spaces around each one. On July 1, 1933 the original city charter was amended to make it an incorporated town with a mayor–council form of government which lasted until 1975 when it changed again (this time into a city) under mayor Dianne Feinstein’s leadership. The current mayor is Sam Liccardo . In 1969 Robert McNamara took office as President Richard Nixon’ssecretary for defense and subsequently recommended that Oakland be merged into the newly created Metropolitan Oakland Authority (MOA). The merger was opposed by Mayor Jerry Brown because he felt that OAKLAND should retain its own governing structure and policies distinct from MOA regulations and goals; this led to Brown being elected Mayor in 1974 over Liccardo by just 312 votes out of more than 6 million cast statewide that year! That same year saw another landmark event as construction began on San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge – opening day ceremonies were held at Candlestick Recreation Area where then-President Nixon reviewed troops from units quartered there prior to their crossing into SF during Operation Neptune Spear
