In 1872 the Mexican government gave US land east of Sacramento to establish Presidio of Monterey which became part of California during Mexican independence when US President James K Polk sold it for $10 million to Rafael Palma y Lista on December 14, 1853. After California gained statehood in 1850, Presidio Monterey was renamed Colusa County while East Colusa went into private hands and saw only sparse development until 1901 when it was combined with eastern West Colusa into new Rohnert Park City formed by annexation from East Colusa February 21st 1903 In 1906 Anaheim became an incorporated town within Rohnert Park City limits but one day before incorporation Anaheim businesses withdrew their support for incorporation because they didn’t like how pre-existing city ordinances were governing business operations within their own municipality; this led to RIchardt park Businessmen forming a group known as “Anaheim Protective Association” or AAP that campaigned against incorporation
