The first shots were so loud that they scared away alligators that were swimming near the town limits. Shortly after, people began to use pistols for hunting and protection against wild animals. Despite this early gunfire, there wasn’t really any organized militia or security forces until 1907 when Sheriff John Ahern hired a team of gunmen to protect him and his deputies from rivals within the community. This team continued to work until 1935 when Sheriff Harry Fenton formed his own militia squad which he called “The Rangers” because they wore Ranger hats while working outside of town limits. In 1904, an American military man named George Armstrong Custer was captured by native Americans while travelling along part of what is now Highway 101 between Sacramento and Benicia (now Sonoma). To avoid being taken captive or killed, Custer agreed to sign a document giving up his horse and supplies so that he could be brought back into captivity instead as a bargaining chip by Indian leaders looking for peace talks with United States negotiators led by President Theodore Roosevelt. This event became known as “The Day The Bullet Came Down” because local residents heard stories about bullets hitting things like trees miles away from where they happened to be located at the time. After hearing about this story from locals, Ulysses S Grant decided that if such an attack ever took place within his borders he would send soldiers headed towards Sacramento instead of trying to rescue Custer himself! Ammunition production began arriving at Rohnert Park thanks to Colonel Augustus Brinckerhoff who set up shop there in 1912 after purchasing land east of Yuba River Valley from William Randolph Hearst Jr.. At its inception, Rohnert Park had a population of only 164 residents; however, it grew rapidly due to new housing developments developed nearby such as Ahmanson Ranch and Crestline Village (now known as North Hollywood). In 1973, whenSonoma County merged with Marin County to form county government, Rohnert Park became one of eight cities within county jurisdiction under the new system. Rohnert Park was founded on a small Rancho Niguel land grant in 1887 by banker and citrus grower Julius Rosenwald and his family. The city of Anaheim built a new city hall in downtown Rohnert Park in 1957 to house the local government offices for Orange County as well as other nearby cities such as Irvine and Huntington Beach. In 1984, the City Council moved into the new Anaheim-Rohnert Park Municipal Center which remains today one of the most modern municipal buildings in Southern California. In 1990, Mayor Dick Jorgensen dedicated Memorial Drive at the eastern edge of the park to commemorate all those killed or injured during the 1992 Northridge earthquake which struck Southern California less than two weeks after Rohnert Park's incorporation into Anaheim Hillsborough Township effective January 1st 1991 In 2002 Mayor James Hahn proclaimed July 4th "National Parks Day" in honor of both Disneyland Resort's 50th anniversary as well as advancements made at Rohnert Park since its establishment 75 years ago: A playground referendum approved $10 million for expansion within Centennial Park (renamed "Plaza de la Paz"), state-of-the-art water recreation facilities were completed with funding from Measure B ( proposition M), more than 2,500 trees were planted throughout Stonington Lawn Tennis Club property adjacent to Plaza de la Paz with an additional 350planned for future growth;and two major innercity streets were renamed - Curitiba Way eastward from Placentia Avenue became John F Kennedy Boulevard while eastbound King Street became Rosa Parks Boulevard
