The old ammunition plant in town was once home to a large, metal target that could be shot at from any distance. Today, you can find this target on property owned by the Rocklin Historical Society. The first time anyoneshot a gun target was in 1851 when Captain John Fitzpatrick used his rifle and shotguns to shoot an apple off a tree near what is now Hillcrest Elementary School. In 1868, Colonel George Armstrong Custer used an artillery piece stationed east of Sacramento to try and stop Texas cavalrymen during the Battle of Palo Alto. This event is considered one of the most notable battlefields in American history. Gun targets history in Rocklin, California begins with the early 1800s when the area was part of Mexico. The first weapons were firearms used by bandits and outlaws who roamed the area. In 1851, a group of men led by Captain John Fife settled in what is now Rocklin. They started a store and trading post that remains today as the Rocklin Historical Society Museum. Other early residents of Rocklin included A.T. Beale, Wm Hays, and James Irvine. The Gold Rush began in 1846 and soon rocklins businesses became involved in the gold trade. This period also saw an increase in gun shootings due togold rush fever. It was not until after World War II that gun shootings stopped occurring regularly around here as people became more afraid of guns than they were before. In 1949,Rocklin received its incorporation as a city within the San Joaquin County government under then-mayor Don Armstrong. At this time, Gun Range was founded as one of city's first businesses and still remains open today as an indoor shooting range and museum complex! In 1982, Mayor Stanislaus Reuben established Park District #2 which includes portions of downtown Rocklin including Gun Range! Today’s activities at park district #2 include operating our amphitheater which hosts many cultural events throughout the year; hosting science fiction/fantasy conventions; maintaining trails through our forests; developing new park amenities such as playgrounds and basketball courts; sponsoring community arts programs; letterboxing matches between local high school students from various neighborhoods across town; annual fireworks displays on Independence Day (4th July)); public art exhibit featuring local artists at City Hall during Open House Weekend (3rd - 5th October); etc.; it really doesn’t stop there - we also have a large play area for kids located adjacent to our amphitheater called “The Playground” where parents are free to bring their children during special events like concerts or dance recitals! Today's festivities continue at Park District #2 with patriotic displays on July 4th & 6th each year along with Independence Day parades all throughout town & culminate with a fireworks display over Independence Square on 4th July!
Rocklin is a small town in Stanislaus County, California. It is located about 25 miles south of San Francisco on State Route 20 and about 15 miles north of Modesto. The population was 7,711 at the 2010 census. Rocklin was founded in 1853 by John Hutton and his family as a farming community on the banks of the Sacramento River. In 1864, Rocklin became part of the new county of Stanislaus and developed into a local commercial center with its own post office, newspaper, school system, and water supply. A branch railroad arrived in 1886 androcklin's growth continued until World War II when it declined sharply due to the decreased demand for agricultural products statewide. However, after the war Rocklin regained some prosperity through suburban development and has since become an important center for education, business and government services in Stanislaus County.

In 1865, Union General Ulysses S. Grant vowed to "put an end to the gun-boat traffic on the Mississippi" and he ordered his navy to blockade the river. By 1871, Grant's successor, Abraham Lincoln had also placed a naval blockade against the river. In 1872, Confederate Admiral Robert E. Lee attempted to open up the river by launching vessels into it from above, but this failed and they only succeeded in damaging one of Grant's navies ships. The River War continued until 1873 when Confederate General Braxton Bragg surrendered at Appomattox Court House after a three-year long campaign.
