Rocklin is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 5,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bakersfield–Delaware–Orange County Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Rocklin area has been inhabited by Mono people for over 10,000 years. A Mission San Gabriel Arcángel was founded in 1797 in present-day Rocklin and Indian Wells valleys. In 1848, American settlers arrived in what is now Kern County and established a rancho named Rancho Cuchillo de la Bahía on Animas Creek. The first post office at Rocklin was established on April 12, 1850 (). In 1863, when California became an upcoming state with its own government and electoral system, ranchers from the east side of the Kern River started to move into what is now Rocklin because they could get more land for their animals than they could from those who had holdings west of the river. When it became apparent that Californians would not let them have all of the valley they wanted (), some ranchers decided to create their own town out of whatever pieces they could find while others helped to build buildings and establish businesses around what would eventually become downtown Rocklin. By 1870, there were about 20 buildings in downtown Rocklin including a school (the first public school west of the Rockies), stores/markets/, a doctor's office/hospital (the first hospital west of the Sierra Nevada), two churches (one Lutheran and one Methodist), four homes – one owned by Judge John Pritchard (), two hotels/motels (one called "The Queen" (), one called "The King", and one called "Casa Blanca"), three farmhouses () scattered throughout downtown rocklin (and several other locations within city limits) as well as various outbuildings such as livery stables (). On October 15th 1872 Calumet Stagecoach Lines made an investment in railroad service between Bakersfield and Los Angeles via Stockton calling at downtown Rocklin before continuing on to Sacramento; this marked the beginning of what would become known as Amtrak service through central Kern County with stops at both Coalinga () and Atwater (). DowntownRocklins fortunes declined after World War II but began to improve after Interstate 5 was built through central Kern County starting in 1965 which increased traffic along main streets which improved access to businesses for everyone including restaurateurs who moved into older buildings near I-5 capacity restaurants opened up next door or nearby which then led to developing new neighborhoods south of I-5 including North Park Drive (), Midtown Drive (), South Park Drive (); finally Westpark Boulevard (). The first school in Rocklin opened in 1889 thanks to donations from individuals and businesses in the community. Over time, education became an important part of life here and there are now several high schools including one that serves both public and private students. In addition to education, business opportunities are plentiful here with many companies operating within walking distance of each other or across the street from their buildings on Main Street. As Rocklin continues to grow it has made efforts to engage with its surrounding communities through various programs including having cultural events throughout the year along with providing resources like libraries and playgrounds for children to enjoy while they learn about their hometown’s history!
Rocklin is located in the Kern County, California area. It is named after General James Rocklin, who led a military campaign against Native Americans in 1848. The city was founded on September 24, 1851 by John B. Shafter and Wm. H. Dyer as a small town about 20 miles east of Stockton on the Donner River. The first store was built on High Street and the first school was established in what is now the Rocklin Unified School District building on Donner Boulevard.
