Riverside, California is home to over 180,000 people and has been a center of gun culture for many years. It is one of the most populous cities in California and has a rich history with firearms. Riverside was first settled in 1849 and began to grow as a town due to its location on the edge of the Mojave Desert. The city's proximity to water made it an important port for trade during the Gold Rush era. Gun magazines have been located in Riverside since at least the early 1800s. One of the earliest gun magazines located in Riverside was "The Rifleman" which was published by J.B. Lippincott & Sons from 1853-1855. The magazine became defunct after that year but continued to be published sporadically until 1912 when it merged with "The Westerner" which had also been published intermittently since 1853. In 1861, John Atherton established Atherton Arms Company which manufactured rifles and shotguns at his factory on East Colorado Street in Riverside. After several years of production, Atherton sold his company to Elisha Gibbs who renamed it American Armory Company and continued production until 1907 when he moved his business into bigger facilities in Redlands, California; however, American Armory never rivaled Winchester Repeating Arms fame (Winchester produced about three times as much ammo per capita as American Armory). In 1919-1920 American Armory merged with Browning Firearms Corporation (later Colt) producing what would become known as “the world’s first assault rifle” – the M1919A4 Springfield rifle/ammunition combo – aka “Baby Browning” due its resemblance to infantile drawings issued by US Colonel George Sarton while stationed at Ft Benning Georgia during World War I.). At this point America Firearms ceased operations although some guns still bear their markings today including those belonging to current owner Marine CorpsWeapons Store Inc., where I currently stand inside precariously balancing my Thompson submachinegun against two Daily News headlines just waiting for impact should any staff or customers venture outdoors while I'm not looking...odd job security huh? Anyway back story goes something like this: American Armory Co.'s M1911A1 pistols were designed by Edmond Bechet who also designed America's only combat automatic rifle called the GP-10 (Glock Pistol Automatic 10mm). The pistol parts were all produced by Bechet himself outside of DuPont Laboratories before being sent directly off site for manufacturing into components for other arms companies like Colt! This indicates that there must have been significant demand from manufacturers prior to joining up with Colt because otherwise nobody would have bothered making their own pistol parts separate from general firearm parts assembly! AmericanArmory also manufactured rifles such as .45 ACP revolvers chambered for 7mm Remington Magnum rounds! These rifles are now housed at GIA next door where you can see them displayed under glass case labeled “ models 1860-.45 Special Comp bolt action rifles - old stock” along side boxes full of documents dating backto1860 documenting each step of manufacture! The first gun magazines were invented in 1825 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte. They were called "Cannon Journals." The first firearms magazine was a small pamphlet that held six rounds of ammunition. It was used by the French army to keep ammo and weapons organized.

Hall and his brother Samuel bought 3,000 acres of land on the banks of the River Arroyo Grande. The Halls built a log cabin and named their settlement Riverside after the river they were looking to purchase. In 1827, George Hennepin sold 5,000 acres of land to John Sutter and Caleb Colfax who founded the city of Sacramento on the site ofpresent-day Sacramento. From its beginning, Riverside was a boomtown with businesses such as leather tanning, flour milling, gold mining and agricultural pursuits typical of those times. The discovery of oil in 1901 led to a period of growth for Riverside which saw population increase from about 20,000 in 1901 to over 100,000 by 1910. Oil production ceased during World War II but continues to be significant today with many large companies being based in Riverside including ChevronTexaco (which merged with Texaco Inc., now ExxonMobil) and American Gas Transmission Co.. However, although some aspects have changed little since then – such as increased traffic congestion – Riverside retains much character from its early days as an agricultural center that produced produce like grapes and apples; sheep farming; dairy products; vegetables; lumber; pottery; furniture; clothing stores (including Sears Roebuck & Co.; JCPenney); pharmacies (CVS/AARP); restaurants (Pizza Hut/Wendy's/Dukes); golf courses (Lansdowne Golf Club). Today’s economy is dominated by services with major employers including Kaiser Permanente Medical Center(KPMG), Southern California Edison Company(SCE), Lockheed Martin Corporation(LMT), Corning Glass Works(CGW) - formerly RCA Victor - and dozens more smaller companies. Many small businesses have disappeared or are no longer able to survive because they do not have access to affordable housing or other economic opportunities that characterize most major cities these days. Despite this challenges facing many small businesses throughout our community – especially those generators of jobs not easily Replaced – Riverside still maintains its identity as a vibrant local community committed to creating opportunity for all who live here!

Riverside was founded in 1875 by brothers George and Philip Hahn. The city's first post office opened in 1876. The name of the river that forms the east side of Riverside was given to the city by John Sutter, who arrived in 1848 and named it after his native land, Sacramento County. In 1912, Riverside adopted a new charter that allowed for a mayor-council form of government with a unicameral legislature. In 1916, Riverside voters approved an ordinance creating a park system including four parks: North Park (later City Park), Central Park, South Park, and West Side Park. Riverside became one of the most heavily populated cities in California when it annexed portions of unincorporated Montebello and Canoga PARK during the 1920s.
