Riverbank is a small town in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, United States. It was located on the east bank of the San Joaquin River, opposite downtown Sacramento. The population was 10,859 at the 2010 census. In 1869, John Farrand organized what became known as "The Riverbank Rifle Company". He and his brother Jameson Farrand were among the first to introduce rifle shooting to America. They established a shooting range in 1871 and formed a club for woodsmen and fishermen. In 1875 they built a post office at their current location. In 1886 they developed an irrigation system that allowed them to grow corn and other crops on their land which they sold to local farmers. They also manufactured rifles and shotguns under their own name until 1907 when they became part of Winchester Repeating Arms Company (WRAC). In 1912 WRAC merged with Black & Decker Manufacturing Co., creating one of the largest firearms manufacturing companies in history with over $100 million in assets (including interests in ammunition manufacturing businesses). At its peak, Black & Decker employed more than 40,000 people across three continents. Black & Decker discontinued manufacture of firearms in 1954 but continued production of industrial tools until 1984 when it merged with Adirondack Tool Works Incorporated to form Brownells Corporation. Today, Brownells manages all aspects of weaponmanufacturing for both civilian and military customers worldwide through its wholly owned subsidiaries including gunsales company Advanced Armament Corporation (AAC) and international armaments distributor Groupe Armee du Levant SA (GALILEO).

Another early businessperson was Augustus Fenton who ran an ice cream parlor out of his house from 1922-1929; this parlor later became known as Fenton's Cafeteria which still operates today). In 1885, after years of development work by several committees chaired by Mayor John Clements (who had been elected to succeed Henson),riverbanksite shopping center became reality with construction starting on May 2nd that year across Main Street from what is now known as Town Hall Square (the square today is home to the offices of the Mills County District Attorney). At that point, downtown Riverbank consisted entirelyof retail establishments including six banks with over one thousand employees employed therein; four hotels with up to two hundred guests each; three grocery stores with more than fifty thousand items sold; four movie theatersingscreening films outdoors twenty times each week; eleven restaurants serving food totaling nearly fifty thousand dollars per month grossed on average; sixteen bed & breakfasts accommodating up to eighty guests each; ten furnished residences comprising ninety percent of all rental activityintown during 1886-1912 inclusive.; thirteen churches - nine Episcopal (Anglican)and six Lutheran - services were offered daily throughout these years;; prostitution increased dramatically but never went out Of control;; many businesses closed due mainlyto prohibition
